Woah, how did you do that? it looks like your in the planets upper atmosphere... i'm guessing a nebula with the planet model in it - is that right? it looks great!

It's an enclosed "cube". I surrounded the sky 6 ways with background images and I placed a planet in there. Kinda looks like the real thing, eh? Too bad I can't make it change the farther you get out... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
BTW: Here are a couple of things that need possible solutions for fixing (they look unrealistic for the atmospheric touch):
*Warping in/out through subspace
*Not falling to earth when speed is 0 (but on this one, I thought I'd give a whole new look to gravity by giving ships "anti gravity devices" but I didn't think that'd pass too well. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) )

If I were you, I'd make a ground map, place trees, high res textures, etc. as opposed to a sphere.
It would then appear that you're in the upper atmosphere over a region.
Don't want sub-space? You can use no-warp as an option and have ships come in from the distance.
Want sub-space? Then put in the plot that the enemies have precise coordinates on where to deploy ships, and give the player a way to kill that. (say a red alert mission before in low orbit where you nail an AWACs)
