I go to a few different anime/gaming/cosplay conventions a year, namely in the St. Louis area. Anyone else here go to conventions at all? The reason I ask is because there's a convention (Natsucon) this weekend in Collinsville, Illinois and I was wondering if any other HLPers were going. I'll be going all three days and will be with a fairly large group of people. Anyone interested in meeting up [in public, of course] at the convention?
Feel free to use this thread to post about any conventions or other such events that you're going to anywhere in the world, and who knows, maybe you'll be able to meet some of these people.

I was at Supanova Australia on Saturday a few weeks ago. Wore my flight jacket with the Ace Combat patches all over it. It was absolutely packed and there was no breathing room. Next time, I'm going on the Sunday.

I'm not sure if it's the same in Australia, but from what I've seen here, Sundays are usually pretty dead. It's a much more personal environment, which is nice, but you don't generally have the opportunity to hang out with the people you do meet. I hope your next experience is a better one!

Snuffleupagus. Called it.

I haven't been to one before, but I am actually interested in doing so with some of my friends. Supanova comes to Brisbane in November, so that's what we're planning.

(Australia) I think it looked like there were more people at Supanova in Sydney on the Sunday this year. Either way, great event.. so many people... :shaking:
SMASH! would be another Anime specific event in Sydney, and there are few other ones as well, such as Armageddon in Melbourne.
Comic-con or Celebration would be fantastic to get to.

IT'S A TRAP!

I'd go, but I'm too lazy to be looking for the next convention and probably a little embarrassed about going alone to something like that.
Now if we're talking about gaming, yes I'd go even alone.

I'd like to go to ECGC (East Coast Gaming Convention). There's also Animazement but I'm not sure I really want to go.

I don't like being part of large teeming masses of people in general, but large teeming masses of socially-awkward nerds with no guaranteed grasp of proper personal hygiene? Yeah, I'll pass. :p

It's San Diego. We have ComicCon. We've been a few years, but never consecutively. I don't mind but it's usually the wife who actually wants to go...and won't go to a con without being obviously attached, due to past experiences with socially inept nerds and not appreciating feeling comforted by having a can of mace on her person.

I've been twice to the Boston anime con since a few of my Kendo friends like to go. It's certainly a people watching spectacle and there are occasionally some interesting panels. This year's we attended two panels hosted by Nabeshin, a director from Japan, who hilariously looks and has all the mannerism of one of the other students in the Kendo club. So much so we are pretty sure they are alter egos.
Tough I'm very glad I am tall and can open glass doors from the very top where they haven't been made opaque by the combined geek sludge.
Also corsets are not a magic fix for people's silhouette. Especially if its not fitted properly, you just end up looking like you have either back cleavage or you ass crack extends up to your shoulder blades.
