get hype (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7JUnF5ooe4)
-
Please be not cod please be not cod please be not cod
If this brings back at least bits of Strangereal, I am so going to get this.
-
... a playstation 3 exclusive... really? :blah:
Zero hype.
-
Well, AC6 was a 360 exclusive....
-
I was surprises seeing Xbox got one at all seeing as the series grew up on PlayStation. I'm covered. Do want.
-
Because having youtube embedding is the ****.
-
well the text is stilted enough to be back to form, that's for sure
-
That circular thing at 28 seconds looks suspiciously Stonehenge-ish....
omg if this is an AC4 remake....
-
Well, AC6 was a 360 exclusive....
Aside from the fact that exclusive nonsense is **** period. The point is more that the new console generation is around the corner and that platform exclusivity for this generation seems really pointless. It's not going to sell sony a whole lot more PS3's. I'd also like an ace combat that does not have graphics out of the year 2006. Also, assault horizon was ****.
This is why I can't get hyped for this.

With all those comets and fighter jets it might be Stratos 4...
Maybe there'll be a BAC TSR-2 :P
Anyway PS3 exclusive means I'm out.
-
What are those crater things? Planetary bombardment by an alien species or WW3?
-
The trailer seems to hint at multiple asteroid impacts. That, and the vaguely Stonehenge thing, make the assumption that this is something of a return to the strangereal continuity and a bit of a remake of AC4 more likely to be true.
AC4's backstory is that Earth was under threat of asteroid bombardment, so the nations of the world built an array of superweapons designed to kill it. This thing was called Stonehenge, and had several large railguns shooting nuclear munitions (or munitions that looked suspiciously like nukes, anyway). After the impact was over, the country in which Stonehenge was built took control of it, and used it as an airspace denial system to dominate its own continent.

Wasn't the most of the AC setting on strangereal?
So northamerica won't fit in.
Then again I only played Fires of Liberation.

All of it up to AC6, actually. After that, they abandoned the setting in favour of the real world, giving us Ass Horizon; This seems as if it would apply story elements from the strangereal continuity to our world.
-
I saw a CFA-44 Nosferatu and some giant VLS sporting thing escorted by Sukohois so it looks like they are pulling in elements from the previous games.

Looking at that impact crater, it seems like the Stratos team let one slip by :p
-
If this goes the Assault Horizon route I give up. Bring back Strangereal and get rid of that Dogfighting autopilot crap and I'll be happy.
-
Official details coming up tomorrow. Since they seriously love disappointment I'm expecting there'll be tons of disappointment.
<< Tomorrow, at the same time of hour, be ready to commence operation >>

@$$Horizon was a PS3 exclusive back when it's announced for the very first time.

Once again, there's a rumor said that it'll be either an free to play or downloadable-only title. But who knows. Expect ****tons of DLC as always anyway.

It's confirmed. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-02-ace-combat-infinity-a-ps3-exclusive-and-free-to-play)
AC:Infinity is a free-to-play title on PS3.
But I'm still hyped. Why? Because
Stonehenge and flying fortresses and Rex Tremendae and omg omg omg
-
THe moment I saw the flying fortress I just screamed woho :D
-
Having grown up with a PC and Nintendo systems (NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube), I never had a chance to play any of the Ace Combat games. I'd heard good things about the series though and now that I have a PS1 and PS2, will have to look into the series.
Why PS3 exclusive though? Why not just wait until the next generation of consoles (PS4/XBONE)?
-
I dunno. Their marketing people probably seemed to think that the PS3 offered the best return on investment.
What I do expect is for them to go multiplatform when the new consoles are out though, given that the platforms seem to standardize on a tiered internet play model with a basic tier being available for everyone. As 360 doesn't offer this right now, the potential player base is much smaller.
No idea why this isn't on PC though.
-
So... if it's free, where are the microtransactions? Where's the pay-to-win?
Oh wait, I see there's online multi. There we go.

Possibly a prelude to an upcoming single-player game?
You know, build up hype and bring new players to the franchise with a multiplayer-only game, then come out with a full game?

I begrudge that man his capacity for happiness. I do.

No Dumb-F**k-Mechanism confirmed (more or less)

$10 ADF-01 Falken with anime girl skin as DLC confirmed.

anime girl fighter plane paint job
I'm sold.
-
I'm sold.
I'd wait a bit, most of the ones they've done before now are awful.
-
New teaser

Still not impressed yet, seeing $camco's ridiculous track record with their recent F2Ps.
-
The video thumbnail is using a custom-textured ACTIVE from Vector Thrust... :wtf:
-
New.
-
Can't wait to see how they ruin this with their most ridiculous ways of monetization.
-
£1 a missile.
-
Holy crap I heard the Omega 11 British dude from AC4 in that trailer!
-
-
Flying command cruisers ftw :D
-
From some interview with the developer (I think?)
Apparently, the campaign will be 5 missions long and the charge system will be for sorties and items, which I believe is limited to coop.
Well, that's as expected;$camco being its usual self. Also the release's delayed to November.

The Beta is live, from today to February 11th. Get it here (http://bngames.eu/acecombatinfinitybetaclient)
-
Right, so I played a couple of rounds yesterday. My overall impression is pretty positive so far, but there is a big caveat in terms of this game's monetization model, which has not been revealed so far.
Anyway.
The beta comes with two game modes. There are two single player missions (which are nothing fancy, although they do manage to evoke the good old feeling of Ace Combat 4 through music choice), and the online multiplayer.
In terms of handling, planes feel almost exactly like they did in AC4 through Zero, with the addition of an explicit maneuverability boost gained by deploying airbrakes in a turn. The Dogfight mode from AC:AH is gone, and not missed.
There is however a new feature called "datalink" in here. This basically rewards sticking to your wingman, as being near to each other will boost fire rate, maneuverability, and a few other things.
The multiplayer battles are short and fun. The game mode is Coop Vs, with two teams competing on how many enemy targets they can destroy. Missions usually last 4 Minutes or so, and successful completion of bonus objectives earns you research points that are automatically spent to unlock planes and equipment in the tech tree. In addition, planes themselves have a level, increasing it grants bonusses to the base stats.
In conclusion, provided the monetization model isn't completely bonkers, this game does provide at least some of the core thrills of older AC games, and the solo campaign looks to be a sort of best of compilation album of ACs past.

As an AC4 through AC6 fan disappointed with Assault Horizon, I sure hope Infinity turns out.
