If that's really Al-Qaeda, then it's their first action on such scale since good few years. I hope this doesn't mean those barbarians are actually starting to get back in gear after the US smackdown on them.

While I can't give any hard evidence that it may be occuring, I've always thought surely the dead obvious thing to do if you're Al-Qaeda after the withdrawal date was announced would be to just lie low until the withdrawal was completed, let everyone get lulled into a false sense of security, then strike.

But here's the thing: Al Qaeda has won. Their terror campaign, with just a few successful strikes, reshaped US foreign and domestic policies for over a decade with no end in sight (and, to a lesser degree, the policies of all western countries). Things like this? They're just keeping up the pressure a bit. Al Qaeda doesn't have to do anything, they can just sit back and watch the US go deeper and deeper into self-destruction.
