I'm playing through the campaign in multiplayer with a friend of mine. We got to "Mystery of the Trinity" and ran into a bug.
Shortly after the mission starts, you can see in the distance straight ahead that there's a fight going on, with what looks like flak cannon effects and explosions. (weird that they're not obscured by fog) Soon after this someone says the Trinity's been destroyed, and I'm told to return to base... whereupon I'm told the mission was successful and I did a great job against harsh odds... the whole mission is over in probably less than a minute.
If it matters, we're playing through the missions individually rather than through the "campaign" mode.
Setup for both of us is:
FS2 Open 3.7.0 RC2
MediaVPs_3612 installed
Launcher 5.5g
Windows 7 x64

damn you are good at FS2, finishing that mission in less than a minute :D

That's definitely a weird one; it sounds like something's showing up to the party well before it's supposed to. You'll definitely want to generate a log file for the support gurus around here to take a look at; this post (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.msg1180359.html#msg1180359) gives you instructions on how to do that.

I'll see if my friend has any time to play tomorrow and I'll get a log. Thanks.

Actually, one more thing while I'm thinking about it: have you tried playing through the mission in singleplayer mode, to see if the same thing happens? That might help narrow things down.

I was looking for a fix for something unrelated and came across another thread that mentioned this issue:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82967.0
in mission SM1-05, I removed an asteroid field causing collisions to the Trinity and destroying it at the beginning of the mission, causing a loss everytime;
Seems like the fix was just never added to FS2O.
