A heads up for all the XCOM lovers among us. Just spotted this baby on Steam, in the midst of a kickstarter-esque approach to a release. Set in the early 60s, it's a third person squad based tactical combat game that, from the view of the gameplay available on the trailer, looks like it borrowed a whole lot from Mass Effect on the combat side. It's still XCOM, and some of the baddies are immediately recognizable, like Sectoids.
It's not turn based as far as I can tell, so it's not going to play the same as most XCOM games, but it looks interesting nonetheless, if only for the Cold War era scenery and fun times.

I believe this is the 2k Games shooter remake of XCOM nobody wanted.

After a whole bunch of re-imaginings, it's definitely come a long way from the FPS versus weird blobs that it started out as. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will turn out well, hoping that it'll be the closest thing to X-COM: Alliance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-COM:_Alliance) we'll ever see.

Well that's how it was at first, it's looking a lot better now.

It's amazing what turning the game into an editorially mandated disaster can do?

Sometimes! I won't be pre-ordering it for certain, but if reviews are good I'd be interested eventually.

I've seen quite a few gameplay videos of this game (just look for them in youtube) and it feels very much like Mass Effect 3. But I kinda got the feeling that gameplay isn't quite as smooth as in ME3 and there is A LOT of meaningless dialogue that was apparently added just because. And it doesn't have multiplayer either. It's good because that means all focus is on single-player, but it's also bad because it'll be quickly forgotten. I might have bought this game if it had co-op multiplayer, but now it has to stand on single-player alone and honestly, I'm not impressed.

I'm curious as to whether they'll actually make a good game out of it. It won't be easy to convince die-hard X-Com fans after the "BETRAYAL!" reaction following the announcement that X-Com will be made a shooter.

But isn't there already an XCOM shoo- :snipe:

The game is out. But since nobody's been posting here I guess nobody has it or cares about it.

Let's just say I won't pay full price for it.
How are reviews looking?
-
6/10
In other words, "not good"

Who's that from? Or is it an average?
