I just upgraded my OS to Windows 8 from Windows 7 yesterday, and I decided to play FreeSpace today. Once I clicked on "Play" in wxLauncher, I received an error saying "Unable to get proper pixel format for OpenGL W32." I also received the following error:
Unable to initialize display device!
ntdll.dll! ZwWaitForSingleObject + 12 bytes
KERNELBASE.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_0_RC2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_7_0_RC2.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_7_0_RC2.exe! <no symbol>
This is the first time I received an error like this. I played FS yesterday, and it worked fine; in fact, it has worked ever since I started playing on this computer 2 years ago. I am curious as to how I can fix this problem. Here is some info of my computer: HP Pavilion g4 with AMD Phenom II P650 dual core processor (2.60 gHz) with Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics. I read the sticky on this forum before posting here about the pixel error, and my settings are set to 32-bit. I've also attached a debug log. Any help would be much appreciated.

The issue is with your GPU driver. Please reinstall it.

Alright, it's working again. Thanks for your help!

:bump:
I apologize for bumping this thread, considering that it has been some time since I last posted in it, but I'm having the same issue again. I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 last month, and I have been looking for updates for my GPU, but it looks like AMD isn't going to update it for some time. I was wondering whether there was any way I could avoid this error since my GPU is apparently up to date. I was attempting to play FSPort today, but I got the same error as above. I've attached my debug log. Once again, any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, but short of using the last usable driver for that GPU (There should be a win7 one, I think, which you can use), nothing springs to mind.
Bottom Line: There is no way to guarantee that such an old chip can be combined with a new Windows and still be usable.
