I'm not sure how I missed this one but one of the best up-coming strategy space games has just released a demo (http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/imperiumgalactica3/ig3-demo.exe.html). It's about 65Mb (and no I've not got it yet). But I've seen some shots and it looks absolutly incredible - including the kind of in game battle damage to ships that we'd like to see in Freespace!
Anyways, I recommend anyone with even a passing interest take a look at this beauty.
-
Thanks for the notice, Thunder
-
I don't think this is my kind of game, but I'll download it anyway and give it a go.
-
just watched trough the movie-mode....
wow! It's like freespace all over again, but this time you're in command.
Beams, beams galore!
and the ships: beautiful.
-
Well, the gfx was Very nice. It's too bad that it's only a rolling demo. It shows a battle in an asteroid field. Quite nice.
-
can someone tell me how to actually control the ships, i have a basic idea, but they dont listen to me much
-
IG2 was a wonderful game :D But if those requirepments are true (600MHz etc..) i dont think im gonna play this game...but yeah IG series is a damn great
-
IG2 was incredibly cool. I played the demo of it (never bought it) and so did some of my friends, but no one ever beat a mission (except me :D).
I hope this is even better than that one!
-
Checkin'...
-
its pretty sweet. i just wish it wouldn't lock at 1024x768
-
My..........god..............
THIS GAME IS ****ING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WWWWWWWWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Wow... I can't beat that mission tho.. its impossible :( I've tried everything, from supercharging shields and weapons(leaving engines with no power) to just evasive actions... god... that mission sucks lol
-
I actually got pretty far...destroyed two cruisers, and about 3/4th of the battleship. But the game crashed...:(
-
They dont give you enough feedback on what your ships are doing...
-
You're expected to know, I think. What I don't like is that I can't tell my ships exactly what to do...
-
Ryx: Push escape, it'll give you a menu from which the rest of the demo is available.
I know what the rest of you mean about the lack of control... I've yet to figure out what the hell I'm doing...
-
The game keeps crashing on me....... :(
The farthest I've managed to get is to where it's trying to load the one mission it has....
-
Drop the graphics and sound down to nothing and try loading the mission again, after your ships have jumped in put the graphics and sound back up to what they were. It's a problem I've had as well.
-
Managed to play the game a few mins before it crashed (brought Win down with it).
I think I'll wait for the next demo.
-
Yeah, I really hope they clean some of this stuff up - one thing I hate is not having any direct control over the ships. Having played HW for so long I spent all of my first and second try at the demo mission wanting to issue movement orders and cursing at the stupidity of the ships. I imagine of course that I'm doing something wrong but it's still annoying not to have direct control over movement when you have control over everything else.
It'd also be nice to see a tutorial mission, I'm a little worried that dropping everyone in the deep end without any knowlege of the game when they're out-numbered and out-gunned is going to put a lot of people off since they won't beat or even make a difference to the outcoming of the demo the first few times they play.
It seems to have gotten rid of a lot of planetry micromanagement (apparently) although there may be some added into the final release. But then again we've no direct control over ships so it's not like HW either... which means that in the end it's just a case of learning what to click and when to beat the game and that doesn't look like fun to me - even if it does look incredible.

Anyway, I found the manual for the demo...
http://www.ig3.de/download/manual.zip
Also on the website it says the demo was made for a certain graphics card, the Matrox Parhelia... in a few days they'll come out with a demo for other cards... so just wait.
-
I couldn't even get the game to start. Must be because I only have TNT2 and the readme said that Geforce 2 is a minimum requirement.
-
If anyone needs some help with this, I've figured it out. An odd thing about it is that when you tell a ship to attack, there is no indication that the order was recieved. Also, I think the mission was designed to be (almost) impossible to beat.
-
Here's a tip: When your ships are engaged, get your cruiser to drain the shields on the target ship, while your battleship trys to destroy it.

I was just talking about bad hardware optimization for IG3 just today to my friends...... I guess this is why it had the little parhelia icon :p (now I have to re-inform my friends....)

Actually its pretty easy... I beat it without losing a single ship :)

How?!
-
You know the last two ships that enter the system? they are far away from the battlecruiser and the other 2 cruisers... you take them out first. Destroy all the cruisers with the Phalanx guns, and then you can use your missiles and bombers without any harm coming to them. Also, you can select which system to attack, so you can specifically destroy a shield system of an enemy ship... quite useful ;)
-
That's what I try to do, but my Phalanx never seem to work...
-
the BattleCruiser of yours doesn't have any Phalanx... only 2 of the ships have them I think... the carrier and one of the cruisers. Stay away from the asteroid field until you destroy the enemy ships, then use Attack Devices on the asteroids...your ships should use the phalanx automatically against the missiles.

Thanks Thunder. :):)
