Post by: Akalabeth Angel on August 20, 2013, 02:18:08 pm
Looking pretty cool:

Along with Mirror's Edge 2 this game'll probably convince me to get an Xbox One sooner rather than later

It's Titanfall btw. :) And for those who don't know, it uses Source engine believe it or not.

Looks cool, but it's got to be heavily scripted gameplay. There's no way they allow such movements as jumping inside a combar armor like that.

Not sure if srs. That kind of movement is pretty much half of the set of defining game features. Either way, gameplay videos after release will shed more light on it. I would consider paying full price for this game, but only if it's as good as these videos make it seem.

You know this is the same engine that gave us Portal, right?

The only scripted parts I could definitively see were the appearance of enemies, like that two-on-one Titan battle.  All the others you could briefly see "Press X to blah".  That's not exactly what I think when I think of 'scripted' gameplay.

It's supposed to be multiplayer only though. So, to be honest I'm confused as to why they're even talking about a story.
Unless there's some SP stuff being added in.

I think the jumping into a mecha thing is probably just triggered animation by jumping onto your specific mecha. That sorta thing.

IIRC Titanfall has both sp campaign and mp, similarly to BF series.

Thats jst like playing Battlefield 1942 and jumping out of a plane, into another vehicle or plane, no matter if moving or not...

In all BF games, all the launchers have no backblast anyway. And technically you cannot drive and fire the main gun on a tank at the same time, at least when nobody is operating the gun.

Not according to wikipedia.

Also he explicitly states it in the video as well:

MP-only or not, Titanfall looks really good. CoD-style gunplay mixed with Heavy Gear, jetpacks, and parkour? Count me in.... probably. Of course I'm not going to buy it until it's actually out alongside some critical opinions, and I certainly won't be getting an XBone for it (PC gamer 4 lyfe yo).

Player mobility and survivability? From Call of Duty developers? It's more likely than we think!

Y'know, this step away from the slow-moving no-jumping instakill gameplay is pretty refreshing. I'm very, VERY glad that their mission statement eliminates two huge problems I had with Call of Duty as a whole, namely, the slow movement combined with instadeath guns. Give us maneuverability, give us survivability, and all of a sudden you get firefights that last for longer than three seconds.

It sounds like a blend between CoD and Quake.

I'll be getting it for PC.
