"Consumers might be a bit disappointed to find that the smartwatch is a partner device reliant on being paired with a Samsung Android smartphone or tablet, rather than being the completely autonomous device media and communications device many consumers were expecting and hoping for."
:beamz:
At when point I when the google glasses were announced I changed my option to a smartwatch but this has hurt my faith.
I'm sticking with apple.

One day, someone will realise there is a fortune to be made from a smartwatch which isn't paired to a particular manufacturer.

.....or one that isn't so ****ing ugly!

Smartwatches (especially entirely autonomous ones) with today's tech are a dead end. Battery life is too low in any realistically sized device, and how many people want to charge a watch every single day? A phone, yes, just chuck it out of your pocket and onto the charging plate (or plug it into the wall if you're still living in the past :P ), but constantly unstrapping and restrapping a watch? Nah, too inconvenient for the average punter. Once the novelty wore off... why would you need it over your phone? Screen's too small to browse the web on, or effectively control with your fingers, so you need a whole new UI for the tasks it would be able to do, like check the weather or give GPS directions (all of which will need additional battery power, through a thicker, larger cell). Nah... they're the wrong direction I think.

I am still waiting for the eyegmentation that lets you shoot laser beams.

Dare I ask, what's the bloody point in picking one of these over a freaking watch?

It's only a matter of time. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_power#Timeline_of_wireless_power)

Right when that gets perfected people are gonna spout the same old complaints about their bodily fluids being corrupted just like wi-fi and cellphones. Obviously it won't stop the manufacturers.

EDIT: Mommy will santa bring me a SmartMechaGodzilla for christmas?

seeing that timeline just makes the tesla worshippers who act like he would've mastered wireless power if he'd just had a little more funding and time and adulation look even more pathetic

why? there is a 50 year gap where literally nothing happened, basically the state of the art stagnated when tesla lost his Wardenclyffe lab for about 100 years until people started working with the technology again in the late 1990s.

I mean **** son
"2008: Intel reproduces the original 1894 implementation of electrodynamic induction and Prof. John Boys group's 1988 follow-up experiments by wirelessly powering a nearby light bulb with 75% efficiency."
we are basically 5 years further along on this technology than tesla was.
