If there are any undecided Australian voters left on here (and there are more Aussies than I used to think) I hope you consider this on Saturday.
Rather pissed the **** off right now.
-
Well... that was... quick. They backed down after about six hours following an absolute rollicking on twitter and facebook. Power to the people, I guess.
-
Turns out, making unpopular decisions while you're in the opposition shortly before an election is a really bad idea.
Who knew?
-
Eh.. as before. Doomed either side this election.
I've even lost a tad of my support for the S&FP, still against the Greens though, so thats ok :D.
But we have some great choices (sarcasm), honestly I dunno how the parties come up with some of their ideas. Some of them are plain stupid or completely suicidal vote/popularity wise.
Lets just hope that whoever gets in, we (as the people) can get to do the right thing. (And not another repeat of No this wont happen.. backflip, yea. It's happening) "There will be no Carbon Tax." "A Carbon Tax". :/

How did the Australia sex party do?
-
I guess I'm in a pretty good position in one sense in that I have a really solid local candidate/likely new member coming in (Alannah MacTiernan), so I'm voting for her on local issues as much as I am the party on national ones. Although even if I didn't have that as a bit of a crutch, I doubt I could ever vote for Abbot as PM, or for the coalition's NBN, so my vote was always pretty safely going Labor's way I think... at least in the lower house. Going for the Sex Party in the senate, although with all the dodgy deals done, I think I'm going to have to vote below the line to ensure I don't accidentally end up supporting Family First or some other wingnuts, which is a bit of a pain.
[Edit]Ninjaed by Dekker. They did okay last time, got about 2% of the primary vote nationwide, not bad for their first go round.
-
Caught a campaign ad of theirs on a program called "the last leg" hosted by Adam Hills. They actually sound like they give a ****
-
Don't know much about the sex party, but it seems that they are far more serious then their name lets on?
-
:3
If I was single I totally would...
-
So the Sex Party is actually a serious entity then.
I thought it was going to be a rough equivalent to the UK's Official Monster Raving Loony Party when I first read the name. :)
-
I thought it was an event for barmaids from my local...
-
We also have a "Coke in the Bubblers" party. That's literally their only campaign goal. Those crazy New South Welshmen... wait, I'm one of those!
-
Voted. Labor in the house, Secular Party of Australia in the Senate (with preferences filtering down to Labour via some minor parties).
Dont think it will matter though. Labor will probably retain my electorate, but if the polls are even close to right, we're going to have to hope for an obstinate senate to prevent some of Tony's nastier policies from getting through. :(
-
To the rest of HLP, please don't judge us for the next 3 years based on Abbott. There's a vocal minority who aren't nearly as stupid who also reside in Australia.
Just voted Greens for the Senate and HoR. Dreading tonight's election result based on the exit polls.
-
Polls have been closed for less than an hour on the east coast and the ABC has already called it for the Coalition. :(
-

The Coalition will win in the next 5 minutes at this stage.
-
That's is quite saddening.
-
Worse yet, it looks like Clive Palmer is going to be one of the major powerbrokers in the senate. Clive bloody Palmer. :(
FFS Australia.
-
You know, I can't help thinking of this advert when I consider Abbot getting into power...
-
Welcome to the "democracies with federal governments that suck" club, Australia. 'Bout time you joined the rest of us :) Look on the bright side - you can always vote Abbott out. The poor Americans get a dysfunctional government no matter which party they vote for :P
-
is the uk excluded because it doesn't have a federal anything

Hahaha... **** you. :(

Parliament makes the law for all of the UK. Congrats, you have a federal government in all but name :P
-
No, you have a parliamentary government with different names :p
-
For those interested, the Sex Party is now looking likely to take a Tasmanian senate seat. Better yet, they'll be blocking an anti-gay marriage Palmer United candidate who was the previous front runner for that seat. Good news for Tassie, and Australia generally - given how much of a mess the senate is still looking like becoming, any lefties that get up will potentially be able to do quite a bit to hold the government to account.
-
Unfortunately, apparently the Sex Party's preferences go to Liberal.

Won't matter, since relatively few of their votes are first preference anyway, it'll be the preference flows of the first preferenced parties that define where the votes end up.
-
Good news for Tassie
About time something good happens down here.
