Title: BP-WiH Crashes on Run

Hi, I used the blue planet complete installer to install AoA and WiH I had to redownload AoA to get it to run. Now that I'm moving onto WiH it also Crashed on startup, I have tried downloading any version of it I can find and have not had any luck.

That error shows up after I click Run in the launcher, a Freespace 2 Splash screen flashes then crashes and shows this error.
Any help would be appreciated.

How do I check the command line? I see custom flags in the features tab which is empty?

It is there and if I tell the launcher to launch BP1 it runs fine?

EDIT: Also still crashes after moving to Games/freespace 2

you need to have it installed in a directory called 'blueplanet'

I have BP installed in

A:\Games\Freespace 2\FreeSpace2\blueplanet

and BP2 in

A:\Games\Freespace 2\FreeSpace2\blueplanet2

is that wrong?

Yup.

Should be A:\Games\Freespace 2\blueplanet and A:\Games\Freespace 2\blueplanet2

You have a Freespace 2 folder in your Freespace 2 folder.

Thanks for that. Not sure how that happened lol. Game launches now, in the campaign menu I have Blue planet 1, Freespace 2, Blue Planet War in Heaven 1&2 and The blade itself.

Should I have a blue planet War in Heaven 3?

3.7 (FSO) should work with 3.6.12 (MediaVPs) and 3.4 (FSPort).

You don't have Blue Planet 1 installed! Or if you do, it's not located in C:\Games\FreeSpace2\blueplanet.

If you're going to use the compatibility VPs make sure you have bp2-compat.vp in blueplanet2, and bp-compat in blueplanet.

A reminder that the best way to install Blue Planet on Windows is the Blue Planet Complete Installer. This will install Blue Planet: Age of Aquarius - The Director's Cut and Blue Planet: War in Heaven. You'll be ready to play almost immediately - you just need to select the correct build in the launcher.

0. If you have an existing Blue Planet install, don't worry about it. The Installer will work with it.
1. Make sure you have the 3.6.12 MediaVPs installed in mediavps_3612.
2. Download the BPComplete installer (http://blueplanet.fsmods.net/BluePlanetComplete.exe).
3. Let it run, and tell it where you've put your FS2 files.
4. Insert the bp-compat and bp2-compat vps if you're using them
5. Once the Installer has finished doing its thing, start the Launcher of your choice, select the build you want to use, select Blue Planet as the active mod, and play.

Of course if you want to save bandwidth you can just download Blue Planet 1 on its own. Make sure it ends up in C:\Games\FreeSpace2\blueplanet.

We are working on a unified install to reduce this kind of dependency problem.

I have the mediavps_3612 and the blueplanet folder with blueplanet installed, I had missed the bp-compat.vp file but have just inserted that into the blueplanet folder, to no effect. I get an error stating too many icons in icon.tbl?

I am also a little confused as to the mod.ini. (don't know if this is relevant) but should there be a comma before the blueplanet and then a semi colon before mediavps_3612? I have seen mod.ini's without the comma before anything and some with the comma? It doesn't seem to matter though, it still doesn't work with or without.

The mediavps and your blueplanet folder are not loading. Please make ABSOLUTELY SURE that these folders are named blueplanet and mediavps_3612 and that they're located in C:\Games\FreeSpace 2\. Not one letter or space different.

Your blueplanet2 mod.ini should look like this:

??? I'm lost.. I am not really that much a novice at installing mods for FS2 but recently I have had terrible problems, it maybe this laptop, I used to have better hardware than this, but i don't know? I had a problem with Incursion too, as the second wave of shivan destroyers wouldn't jump in until i shot down the rescue ship for the ship that was disabled and i was trying to rescue (cannot remeber the title of the mission now?)

If you're using the compat packages, try it with both. If they both produce the same error, give me the log from the latest nightly.

Okay. The issue is that your mod command line is malformed. It reads   -mod blueplanet2,blueplanet;mediavps_3612 and it needs to read   -mod blueplanet2,blueplanet,mediavps_3612. I'm pretty sure this is the source of all your problems.

The question is why, since your mod.inis are correct. Can you please check around your FreeSpace 2 folder for settings.ini, launcher6.ini, anything like that? Can you check your custom command line settings in WXLauncher and Launcher 5.5f? Something is telling the game to use   -mod blueplanet2,blueplanet;mediavps_3612.

My wxlauncher commandline reads correct as you posted it? As in

C:\Games\Freespace 2\fs2_open_3_7_0_SSE-DEBUG.exe -mod blueplanet2,blueplanet,mediavps_3612 -nomotiondebris
-post_process -soft_particles -ship_choice_3d -weapon_choice_3d -3dwarp -ambient_factor 75 -spec_exp 11

But i don't appear to have a launcher6.ini

also should there be a mod.ini in the main Fresspace 2 folder that reads

I think it's fine to have that there. I am really, really mystified as to how that comma is turning into a semicolon. Something, somewhere is ****ing this up.

Can you try Launcher 5.5g?

The wierdest thing? I downloaded Launcher 5.5g, used FS Open 3.7.0 and it started working!! Complete mystery why 5.5f and wxlauncher wouldn't work?

Well, I finished playing it and OMG!  it's epic! Can't wait for the next installment! Of course I had to turn down detail settings in some missions because of my rather crappy laptop making some missions unplayable due to low FPS, but the story, OMG! Love it!

Question? Any reason why AoA runs better on my Laptop than WiH?

Can't wait to upgarde my computer so I can play at better Frames Per Second!  ;7 :yes:

War in Heaven uses a bunch more models and particle effects than AoA; there's a lot more polygons and a lot more detailed textures to render, which can bog down even moderately powerful hardware.

Ah, well I enjoyed WiH so much, I went back to replay AoA again, played through it all in about four hours on Sunday (yesterday)  ;)

Need Act 4 ASAP please!  ;7 (Of course I shall be playing WiH again once VA'd)
