Title: How will the GTD Aquitane be remembered in the futrue?
Post by: CT27 on October 28, 2013, 05:57:03 pm
In FS2 IIRC, FS1 player ships (Galatea and Bastion) were talked about honorably and with respect...that they had a good legacy.  At least they seemed to be famous ships.

How do you think the main FS2 player ship (Aquitane) will be remembered post-FS2?  Will it have a good reputation and be remembered greatly?

Only by it's fighter wings and crewman imo. Reason being it didn't blew up trying to stop the great reaper.

Well, the Aquitaine was the command ship during the nebula campaign (at least for the terran side / or so was my impression). The Problem is just that Hecate Destroyers general underperform in direct combat. I mean, this last Vasudan Mission pretty much shows how helpless they are without their fighters.

Also, Pilots from the Aquitaine did win several key engagements against the NTF and and during the Evac of Capella in the final stages. At least that should help with its reputation.

Not enough to put it toe to toe with the Galatea though.

Not enough to put it toe to toe with the Galatea though.

the fact that the Galatea the first known destroyer to be blasted in defense of the Vasudans a species who only a short time before was the sworn enemy means that matching the name is a tall order to follow, perhaps the Phoenicia, Psamtek or Colossus in FS2 could match it, but I would hate to be the one to judge that.

I'd say it'd be pretty famous at least for its role in hosting and training the legendary Alpha 1.

And the "real" Alpha 1, the one stuck on the other side of the node is watching you.

Somewhat like USS Enterprise (CV-6 version); its actions not well-known save to people who study history, its name known to more, but to those who know it is considered something around which campaigns turned.

On a somewhat related note:

It's been said in BP that Admiral Steele isn't exactly liked by those who served under him.  How do you think the Aquitane crew will remember Admiral Petrarch?

An admiral with good quotes?, very memorable.

I'd be inclined to think it'd go down in history for the role it played in the Second Great War, no matter how minor the role. But by being the flagship for the Knossos Nebula campaign, I think it has already won itself a seat.

And yes, because of Alpha 1 - the guy who stayed behind to buy time for the GTVA to get the hell outta the system before it went kaput.  :(

It's admiral Petrarch's flagship. The only human destroyer to have gone farther than anyone else, to enter a nebulae, and spearhead a really gone wrong cruzade (just like its own name suggests!).

The destroyer that managed the protection of Capella's evacuation and the shutdown of its nodes.

It even managed to not get martyrized itself, like the Psamtik. But I guess humans are more down on that kind of romanticism...
