Title: Wierd habits are wierd
Post by: S-99 on November 10, 2013, 03:12:41 am
I've become curious to something i've seen in entertainment every now and again. I've never seen it witnessed in front of my eyes before. But, i know it's not rare.

Washing dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. It's called a dishwasher for a reason. You either have a good or ****ty one. If a ****ty one, then it makes a great drying rack, and or place to store your dishes at least. But, washing the dishes before you put them in and start up the dishwasher uses more electricity and water. If you washed them by hand in the first place, they're clean. Pots and pans are no problem either as long as they're not non-stick coated, and if they had a good soaking first for the burnt on crap you know your dishwasher won't be able to remove.

On a similar note, but with stuff i haven seen in person.
People constantly flushing while plunging a clogged toilet, and then getting mad at the person who clogged the toilet for flooding the bathroom. This happens a lot, having someone else plunge the toilet for you, there's a lot of people who don't know how to do it effectively, and or little kids. Plunging will take care of unclogging the toilet all by itself. And the person plunging for someone else getting mad at the person with the huge turd that clogged the toilet wasn't the person who flushed more while plunging (most clogged toilets don't overflow if you flushed it once, then discovered it was clogged). Keep plunging, you'll know when you're done when the ****contents go bye bye when they go down the hole like normal.

Thanks for the spelling correction. I usually don't remember how to spell "weird".

Different strokes for different folks.
Here had some insight. (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/906791)

RE: Dishwasher. My brother and I don't like to do dishes, so we tend to let them pile up in the sink for a few days before putting them in the washer, so we need to scrape off all the dried-on junk. Same for if we load it immediately after eating; the dishes will be sitting for a while in the washer before we run a load, so that we don't waste energy, so we'll wipe off the food first so that it doesn't get stuck on.

Wash things after they come out of the dishwasher (if necessary) not before. To finish the job the dishwasher started. If you're going to wash before, you might as well forego the expense of a dishwasher and finish the job yourself. Never heard of such a thing, washing before! :)

Ah, so it's more rinsing off the stuck on stuff before putting it in

We rinse our plates off, and for things like peanut butter or steak knives we tend to be a little more vigilant about it. We may have a new dishwasher, but it doesn't handle stuff like that nearly as well as it should (in the end though, it's an energy/water efficient dishwasher so balances out regardless)

That and I don't personally trust machines to do everything. Afterall, I work as a dishwasher. The only thing I trust to get something clean is myself and my keen eye for what can and can't be left on a plate

i presoak most of my dishes, but don't actually wash them.  sometimes some **** gets so stuck to cooking pans that i can't get it by hand.  in that case i'll wash by hand, dishwasher, and then it's usually softened up enough to get with a second handwashing pass.  i've never tried just throwing a crusty old dried food plate in there and seeing if it comes out clean, but i have very little faith in this apartment's older than me dishwasher to pull it off.  i guess it couldn't hurt to try once though.

I just scrape the crap off into the garbage and only soak what i know a jet of water won't be able to spray off. I like to say that most water jets don't have the power of a human finger nail (why i presoak dishes with cling ons because i don't feel like using my finger nails).

I have a Dishwasher fairy. I just leave the stuff in the Washer and it's miraculously cleaned and put away by the morning.

I think my partner is jealous though, she gets really annoyed when I mention her ;)

I generally try to rinse most of the larger gunk off before putting dishes in, mainly because, as that link fails to mention, bits of food can wind up clogging up the outlet, and no one wants to clean that.  Also, have you ever left something like milk residue on a glass in the dishwasher?  Give it a day or so, and the smell will knock you off your feet.

oh god you just triggered an episode.  my idiot roommate in school just put the cap back on an empty milk jug and put it in the recycling thing in our room.  and by empty, i mean there was a thin layer remaining at the bottom in addition to the normal crap stuck all to the sides.  so a couple days later when i go to take it out, it's built up a lot of pressure in the jug and the cap pops off pointed right at me.  that's the closest i've ever come to vomiting without actually doing it.  shivering as i type this.   :shaking:

I don't like milk. I only drink soya milk. Milk is too strong. But I guess now I have another reason to think milk is too strong. Yay for me. :)

Sometimes i just wonder why humans do what they do. I've even done research into people who don't know how to wipe their ass properly.

Hmmm... Soy..., I've nearly run out actually. Normal and Soy.

Have you tried almond milk before?, very... odd. But the chocolate version was rather nice. :D

Dishes pile here, and once there is no room on the benches, we wash them. Dishwasher normally isn't used as it's old, and we don't use it. (I really dunno why actually)

I've never even heard of it. However, I do not like almonds.

I'm actually one of those bad m*****f***ers who pre-washes dishes before putting them to a dish washer. The reason is simple: the washer doesn't get the job done otherwise [say "Siemens" when you want ***t], especially forks and knives are often not clean after a pass in the washer. To make matters worse, the drying phase of the program really dries residuals on the plates and knives, and it becomes extraordinarily annoying to remove that from the plate. So instead, it's easier to wash that stuff away from the plates beforehand. For me it seems that this really is because the dish washer is not using sufficient amount of water to begin with.

On the other hand, I don't remember this being so in the 80s when you could still trust the ****ing machine to do its job. I think this is just the freshest addition to the long list of cock-ups coming from the environmentalists, this time they wanted to "save water", though it never became clear to me how in hell would that help those people who don't have it, given that there's a physical separation of 6000 km between this place and them. Finland is well known for the abundance of water, and it was, is, and will be stupid to "save water" in washing machines that in the end, results in people using it more since the washing quality is not good enough!

Additionally, how many of you dudes and dudettes knew that as a design decision, water piping requires some amount of water flow so that it does not get oxygenated (slightly bubbling grey water coming from the tap that clears up after a minute sitting still)? Well, if you didn't, now you do, and since people are using less water due to improved washing "efficiency", the water companies now have to pump water into the piping and flush it out themselves so that oxygenation is controlled. The end result is a pretty much 0 on the water savings, nothing got cheaper, and your dishes are still dirty.

EU actually requires +20 degree washing program for the washing machines ("saves energy cos water does not need to be warmed"), I'm eager to hear about how many people are going to use that!

Since I got so pumped up about this, from the top of my head, the list of environmentalist cock-ups contains at least:

Because I'm curious, how does one wipe properly

I'm still waiting for humanity to come up with something more advanced than wiping our own filth off our asses with flimsy pieces of paper.  And no the bidet doesn't really count, unless it's a crazy Japanese toilet.

It's not changing, toilet paper is getting softer and softer every day and it's negating the need for something else!

That's a great 90's movie. And that was a great joke.

Because I'm curious, how does one wipe properly
Well, i always made sure i was clean. But, it got me to thinking other people who didn't make sure they had clean ass cracks. That other people wiping was just something you do without thinking about why. You see, most stupid people don't like to evolve the thought at least to question why. You always know better when you know specifically why. Most people are quite comfortable just doing stuff, but not caring to know why. I do most of my learning through constantly asking "why". I also run into a lot of people who never question why. And when they just do what they are told to do lazily (i'm shown many people at work how to actually clean doors at work, and they've showed me how to do it horribly). And when these people who don't care to ask why, and they suck at doing stuff. It boils down to real fast; if it's no body odor, or a fart, and you smell ****...then it's probably because you're smelling that person's ****. Maybe they crapped themselves? Well, that's easy to disprove just simply with people who don't take very good care of themselves. Most people who **** themselves are like "oh ****, i just shat myself". But, for the people who don't mind not brushing everyday, not using deodorant, or not taking a shower, and you smell **** coming off of them. And this person is not panicked that they just shat themselves. I know they took a **** at sometime in the day semi recently, and i still smell ****.

Now i'm used to running into people who were working on septics, toilets, sewage lines. You know when you haven't ran into one of those people. Usually because you ask why, and perhaps, they look like they were knee deep in a septic tank.
Huh? And how do you know whether or not they know how to wipe their ass properly in the first place? :)
Most of my research ended up getting down to this very fast. It's funny, but it gets to the point.
The good thing is that i've always done the correct method. But, OMG part 2 (wtf?!?!?!?, this is what i mean by lazy disgusting bastards).

on similar lines its amazing how many people dont seem to know how a thermostat works. what people dont realize is that a heater has two settings, they are on and off. what you are really doing when you set a thermostat is calibrating a bang-bang control loop. so when some moron is too cold or too hot, and does a drastic change to the thermostat setting thinking it will heat up/cool down faster and ends up reversing it 6 hours later. you are not only doing the thermostat's job (in which case you might as well just replace the thermostat with a switch), but you are are also sucking at it. then there is the even stupider people who leave an upstairs window open and flood the downstairs with cold air, the thermostat thinks the house is cold and all the heaters stay on constantly. why do they not teach people about this kinda stuff in elementary school.

as for the dishwasher thing, if people are too stupid to immediately take dirty dishes to the sink and take 3 seconds to rinse them off before the food dries on harder than concrete, then they deserve to spend several minutes washing them.
