Title: {Help} Blue Planet Unable To Play
Post by: Brick79410 on November 10, 2013, 12:38:38 pm
Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I am able to start Blue Planet, and after the opening cutscene I am given "Warning! The active mod has generated 49 warnings"  Following this, when I try to play the first mission I am able to see the cutscene where the Battlegroup starts for Sol, but after this, I am hit with this error. It is the attached picture. At the mission briefing I am unable to click "Continue" or any of the other buttons, and cannot play. I am using the provided build ( fs2_open_3_6_17_SSE2_BP.exe ).
Any help is appreciated.

If you are unable to see the picture, this is also it:

Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Also, the build that you're using has a number of serious problems; use this build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83318.0) instead.

I believe this is it.

And I'll try that other build right now.

Here is the new log after using the  (  fs2_open_3_7_1_BP_SSE2-DEBUG ) build.

While using both debug builds, I am unable to launch the game, and it crashes on startup with an error message.

Either you forgot to install the MediaVPs or you installed them to the wrong location. If you didn't install them, they can be found here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70736.0). If you did install them, then make sure that they're in a folder called mediavps_3612 (and it must be called mediavps_3612).

Found root pack 'C:\Freespace 2\odysseus.vp' with a checksum of 0x2ea73233
Whatever this is, it doesn't belong there. Move or delete it.

I renamed my mediavps folder to mediavps_3612, and it appears to be working. Thank you very much for your help. If I may ask one more thing, I seem to be experiencing a bit of lag when playing, where there was no lag in Regular FSOpen. I am also running an i5 3570K and GTX 660, so hardware should not be an issue.

Edit: I tried lowering graphics settings to minimum in-game but lag was still present.

You're not still running the debug build, are you? That will hurt performance.

Does the lag / stutter look anything like https://amd.app.box.com/s/tv6ye4cba2gq4avn3lwf (https://amd.app.box.com/s/tv6ye4cba2gq4avn3lwf)?

I, too, am having issues getting BP to work. I got a brand new rig last week (with windows 7 64bit) and hooked up freespace earlier today, as well as the wxlauncher. The mediavps and derelict mods have been put on and work just fine. But when I tried to test BP I got this strange message every time i tried to run it. I tried a fresh DL off the Internet, used different versions, including some of the compatibility builds found here. Here is another thing: BP: AOA came up and worked. BP2, however, does not work at all. Not sure if WIH hates 64bit windows or I am missing something. Can I get some help with this? I also tried running a debug but that didn't work either

Blue Planet 2 must be installed to blueplanet2, not BluePlanet/blueplanet2. Similarly, Blue Planet 1 must be installed to just blueplanet, not BluePlanet/blueplanet.

Just figured it out...I put it right into the freespace directory instead of making a separate BP directory!!!!! It was right in my face the whole time!  ;)  :D

I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly. Do you just now move your BP installation out of the "BluePlanet" subfolder and to your FS2 folder? Or did you move it completely out of your FS2 folders to a separate folder (e.g., C:\Games\BluePlanet)? Hopefully you did the former, since BP is not a stand-alone mod.
