When I select the derelict fold from the mod tab the campaign doesn't show up in the campaign room. I have fso 3.6.12 and launcher 5.5. I tried the advice in the FAQ but it didn't work, nor do I think it was for my problem. A couple other campaigns have this problem but not all of them.

Check to be sure the derelict .vp files are in the correct mod directory, and not in a subdirectory (e.g., \FreeSpace2\derelict\derelict\*.vp instead of \FreeSpace2\derelict\*.vp) -- sometimes, the option to use folder names whilst unzipping can be confusing, so watch for this issue in your other mods.
-
And, as always, Please post your fs2_open.log file. Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.
In addition, be aware that 3.6.12 is positively ancient by SCP standards. I strongly recommend using 3.7 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=85435.0).

Freespace2>derelict>data, derelict.bmp, derelictSCP1.vp is that right? theres other stuff in the data folder, that's just the root of the derelict folder.

That's all you have in the base folder? Because if so, that's missing a few files.

Yes, post your log file as The E said. What you'd be looking for is, say, either another derelict folder under the original one, or perhaps a derelictSCP folder etc. Some zip files are packaged differently (some have the derelict folder included, in which case you would extract the file including the folder structure into \FreeSpace2\, and some do not, in which case you would make a folder called derelict, and then extract the file and folder structure there.)
Just check any folders you find that are underneath the main derelict folder, and be sure you don't find any .vp files there, as they go in the main derelict folder. post your log file, and we will be able to see exactly what your folder structure is, along with other useful troubleshooting information.
Just so you know, a .vp file is a Volition Package file. It has folders inside of it, like a .zip file.
So, your actual folders would be, say, \FreeSpace2\derelict\data\tables, but, the \data\tables is inside of one of the .vp files so as not to make a big mess of the mod folder, and to make additions (mods) easy to find, because, anything that is actually in the folders will be use instead of the file inside the .vp if there is more than one copy.
So, you could, say, replace a model of a ship if a new one was released before the next version of the mod came out by placing the model file into the folder \FreeSpace2\<mod name>\data\models\<new_model_name>.pof, and this would replace the .pof file found in the .vp file which had the \data\models directory.
How does this (possibly) affect your situation?
Well, if you had \FreeSpace2\derelict\derelict\derelict.vp, and you select the \FreeSpace2\derelict mod folder, then the game looks for the required files in \data\ and the other correct folders, under \derelict\, whether from inside a .vp or an actual file in the correct paths, and if those files are under another folder, it will not find them (such as possibly the campaign file? ;) ).
However, lesson over, post your log file. That will tell us what we need to know, including your files/folders. I should have asked you to post it along with my suggestion, but I was taking a quick stab in the dark in case that (extracting to extra subfolders) was your issue. Sorry! :)
@The E, if they have the correct files in a subfolder, the .log file shows it, right? Or does it only show what the game scans for content?

I downloaded it from somewhere else and it appears to be working now, I don't know how that happened... Thank you
Do I need to update my mediavps? The textures looks like they are from the original freespace 2 even though it says in the custom flag thing "-mod derelict, mediavps -spec -glow -env -mipmap"
-
Can you throw us a log file, just in case? That way, you can avoid possible difficulties later on in the game.
-
Here, catch. Why aren't the mediaVPs being applied?

Here, catch. Why aren't the mediaVPs being applied?
Because the mod.ini is referencing "mediavps" and the folder is "mediavps_3612".
-
change the mod.ini to point to the new location.

Ok that worked, but my frame rate isn't the greatest... Very random, anywhere from 30fps to 120fps. I feel like my hardware should be able to run this easily. Playing in 1080p with AA and AF at 4x. I tried to switch to fso 3.7 to see if it would help but it brought me back to the first mission...
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
fx-8350
8gb ddr3 1866mhz
7970 3gb reference card
bad optimzation or is my rig really not good enough?

The newer builds like 3.7.0 have a new pilot code so they will reset your previous pilot. Your framerat should be more stable with the newer build. There were some problems with the message ANIs that caused framerates to drop when messages were displayed.
You may want to look at this thread for an updated version of Derelict. http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=85745.0
I would also recommend you use the WXLauncher. see http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0

I was in a message heavy mission... When I switched back to the previous build the frame counter and other peripherals are gone but my framerate seems fine. Strange...
I'm hesitant to get the updated derelict, I've only done like 6 missions but I don't feel like doing them again lol is it worth it?

I think it is. The graphics are improved with improved models for some of the ships and improved backgrounds. There are some upgrades to the voice also. If your using FSO 3.7.0 it's going to reset you to the begining anyway.
-
frame counter was from using a debug build, switch to 3.7 debug and you'll get it back (also I think there's an option in the launcher to turn it on in regular builds too).
