Depending on your preference, either this is terrible or prefect, but just as another space sim/RPG stroy driven game, is being run on Kickstarter:

Pretty sure that's not even close to the style of Freespace, but it does look kind of interesting anyway. Seems more like Battlecruiser or Consortium. I'm watching it, but haven't pledged anything yet...

soooo..... capship focus, character focus, rpg elements, no indication of the player vs the big bad so far...... so nothing like freespace.

that said, there are some interesting ideas in here that i would love to see developed so yes very interesting project

This. And so far I am not overly impressed. I can change my mind in the future though.
