The Autumn sale is going on now and the Christmas sale will start shortly after that. I'm budgeting myself to about $100 to $150 for the Autumn sale. Feel free to share awesome deals you have seen with us here. Also, don't forget to tell us what you're getting, if anything.

Rome 2, hopefully on a daily or flash sale.
-
I am sad because while I got a decent art tablet, the tablet my mother got me and out of ****ing nowhere nonetheless was $385, so I don't have much money for vidya gaems.
I mean, I appreciate the tablet, but couldn't you have waited *until* Christmas? When said tablet would be cheaper?
Ah, enough personal bull****.
From what it seems, no one was able to resist Skyrim.
-
Just picked up Counter-Strike: GO, Insurgency, Interstellar Marines, Left 4 Dead 2, Left 4 Dead, Steam Marines, System Shock 2 and Terraria; all for about $42. I plan on buying more tomorrow and/or this weekend.
From what it seems, no one was able to resist Skyrim.
Why did you have to remind me? :(
-

Nope!
Also got: Gone Home, Shelter, Papers Please, Don't Starve, and MDK2 HD. All that +Skyrim for under $40 I'm pretty sure. Aw yus.
And I'd like to point out for anybody who hasn't played it yet: To The Moon (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/15373/) is 70% off again and I firmly believe that everyone needs to play it.

Origin has sales too. http://origin.com/
Battlefield Bad Company 2 is on sale for 1€. I'm thinking of nabbing Crysis 3 off Origin.

Just found out about this myself not too long ago, Battlefield 2142 for $6.
I'm contemplating Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition for $35. I'm leaning more towards not getting it now, especially since 2142 is still the best in the series by far.
-
Got a bunch of expansions for Tropico 4, for the total of about 3 Euros. They're worth about that much, but I'm sick now, and if my doctor keeps me on those meds for much longer, I'll be too weak to do anything but running a country. :) I'm also hoping for Metro: Last Light and associated expansions to show up on a flash sale, and perhaps Skyrim expansions. Though me and my father will probably end up buying half the catalog again, just because it was 80% off... :)
-
I'll get some money first, then I'll wait for some promo on Papers, please and Hammerwatch, possibly Magicka DLCs on the Humble Store. It happens to have some pretty damn good deals sometimes too.
-
In total I've bought:
A New Beginning, Battlefield 2142 + Northern Strike, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Civilization III, Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Deus Ex, Dragon Age + All DLC, Gemini Rue, Half-Life 2 + Both Expansions, Half-Life + Both Expansions, Hydrophobia: Prophecy, Insurgency, Interstellar Marines, Left 4 Dead 2, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect 3 + All DLC, Rising Storm, Skyrim + All DLC, Steam Marines, System Shock 2, Team Fortress Classic, Terraria, To The Moon + Soundtrack (thanks to Scourge of Ages) and X-COM: Enemy Unknown
I am also trying to get Guild Wars 2 for free by making a Guild Wars 2 Oath video. And there goes my disposable income, the rest of my money is going towards bills and my car.
-
I'm getting to the point where I think I own the vast majority of games that I both genuinely want and can actually run on this scrap-heap, so these sales aren't nearly as dangerous for me anymore. Of course that only holds true until I get a new system, and then I'm screwed. :p

Indeed. I have also discovered that my backlog was getting severely out of hand so I trimmed my wishlist down considerably.
I'm looking for big sales on the Skyrim Legendary edition, Enemy Within, Witcher 2, and hopefully a discount on the DX HR Director's cut... because why pay $5 if I can pay $2 :)

Although I haven't played BF2 and 2142 all that extensively compared to the newer games, I can say that BF4 does seem more of a proper sequel to the BF2 and BF2142 games then BF3 was.
-
Backlog is already too long, I'll pass.
-
Bought Heroes of Might and Magic 4...
-
Bought Skyrim for a friend. Bought Bioshock: Infinite for a friend.
I'm goddamn Santa, and it's not even December yet.
-
Tomb Raider is 80% off today. Worth a purchase?
-
Tomb Raider is 80% off today. Worth a purchase?
I'd say yes. It's a solid action-y game, but more similar to (what I've heard) Uncharted than to older Tomb Raiders. More shooty-hidey, less wander-aroundy-findy-stuff.
-
metro 2033
-
Thinking about picking up Choplifter HD - looks like it has come a long way since playing on my roommate's Apple //e in college. I'm also considering Starlight Inception, especially if it comes down more.
-
Picked up Psychonauts for $2.50
-
You guys! Humble Bundle has a new bundle! These games are all now in my Steam account!
Natural Selection 2 (was on my wishlist)
Sanctum 2 (already had, it's good)
Magica + Vietnam DLC (already had)
Orcs Must Die 2 (Total Biscuit really likes this)
Serious Sam 3 (heard it's good)
and Garry's Mod (it's Garry's Mod)
-
Thank God, I survived the sale without caving on anything. But winter is coming...

I caved and bought Tomb Raider. All I'm waiting for now is the Legendary edition of Skyrim, Enemy Within, DX:HR DC (because why pay $5 if I can pay $2.50), and Witcher 2.
I have a rule with Steam sales, though: I don't buy games if they aren't at least 75% off. It cuts down on the temptation.
-
Same goes for me. I was tempted for Metro: Last Light, but still, it didn't go below 66%. Oh well, there's the Xmas sale. I'll read Metro 2034 in the meantime, I've heard that Glukhovsky is working on a book that would expand on LL, and it'll definitely be set after 2034. So it'll kind of flow together.
-
I got Bad Company 2, its expansion, Crysis 3 and its expansion off from Origin. The Wolf Among Us piqued my interest so I got it off from Steam when it was in a daily deal.
-
GOG is doing their Christmas sale now as well. As StarSlayer pointed out, you can get Fallout 1 & 2 and Fallout Tactics for free. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=86292.0). There are also a bunch of games on sale, like Descent 1-3, FreeSpace 1 & 2, Total Annihilation, Alpha Centauri and others.
-
GamersGate is doing a sale too, here are a few bargains:
The Last Remnant for $2.50 (http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TLR/the-last-remnant-tm)
Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 + Expansions for $7.50 (http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-DDNWNC/dungeons-and-dragons-neverwinter-nights-complete)
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 + Expansions, Icewind Dale 1 & 2 and The Temple of Elemental Evil for $5 (http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-DBAMC/dungeons-and-dragons-anthology-the-master-collection)
Metro 2033 for $3.75 (http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-M2033/metro-2033)

The Last Remnant...only 2.50$ ... and yet I still don't think I'll get it...because "made by Square Enix".
And I've yet to see worse plot and characters come from anywhere on the planet.

Yep, I didn't realize that it included Planescape Torment until after I posted that, lol.

We WERE planning on launching just before Christmas, but we've been informed by Valve that launching new games during the big Steam holiday sale is a bad idea...
If your wallet survived the autumn sale... prepare for the holiday sale, it IS coming, and soon.

Here's hoping the Skyrim Legendary edition will make my 75-80% discount threshold =)

It has begun. (http://store.steampowered.com/)

**** it they're tying the badge into hats now. Nooooooooooooo.
I finally uninstalled TF2 as I hadn't played it for nearly 18 months. The hat-whoring was becoming problematic around the time I quit - I can only imagine now.
-
Picked up Far Cry 3 and Chivalry
-
i kinda want far cry 3, but then i saw Uplay required. nope.

SupCom & Forged Alliance for Steam are $3 each on Bundlestars:

For the X-COM players - is it worth playing the base game without Enemy Within beforehand, or is Enemy Within an upgrade that meshes well for a first-time player? Currently toying with the idea of buying Enemy Within; I already have the base game.
-
Enemy Within is a fantastic addition regardless of experience level.
HOWEVER, I'd suggest playing it on a lower difficulty to begin with, at the very least, because EW makes panic among nations rise much faster than the base game (or so it seemed to me), so you have much less room for error, strategically speaking. Tactically speaking it's much superior in just about every fashion (except Sectopods. **** them).
-
Hrmmm. I see I can pick up all XCOM DLC for a $17.97. I have not yet played the game at all. Worth it to pick up the DLC and have it all from the get-go?
-
Yes, very much. Enemy Within is basically the same campaign as the original game, only better. So it is pointless to first play the original game and then DLC, as you get to experience them both on same playthrough.
The flash sale that ends in little more than five hours includes all the DLC, I recommend you get them all. 75% of off them all except Enemy Within which is 50% off is good deal.
-
Hm, I can only buy Enemy Unknown for 9.99€, but without Enemy Within...hope this will pop up soon:)
-
Since EU is on flash sale, I think EW fell along with it, just only 50% off. So I figured that since a new game is probably not going any cheaper than 50%.
So I bought it, and Deus Ex:HR Director's Cut, so now that's two things to replay!
-
Found EW for 33% off...but will last till 2nd January, so I buy it on new years eve^^
-
Heyo everyone. How does Strike Suit Zero (and it's "meaner" cousin SS Infinity) compare to the FreeSpace series? I've heard there a lot of similarities, buuuuuuut I thought I'd ask you guys.
Looks pretty cool in a "Macross meets Homeworld" sort of way.

There's a thread about it, though I don't know if there's any comparison made to Freespace.

Tomb Raider is 80% off at $10, who can resist that?
Dragon Age is also hella off, and I picked the Ultimate Edition for $7.50
-
Hellllllp! I've been selling off trading cards that I don't want, so I now have $13.37 in my Steam Wallet but I can't spend any of it because then it wouldn't be L33t anymore...
Anyway: Brothers, Gunpoint, WG: AirLand Battle, Super Hexagon, L4D2, Far Cry 3, A Virus Named Tom. Probably a few others, too.
-

Say goodbye to your life. I spent months playing that game. Steam says 194 hours and I think it underestimated :/

Ironically, I couldn't disagree more. I just got really sick of it for some reason very early in the story and I've never felt a flicker of an impulse to go back.
My sister has been sending me screenshots of Dragonborn for Skyrim, however, and I'm really getting that urge to sink another hundred hours into Morrowind.
-
So Far, i've picked up The Witcher 1 and 2, Godus and Skyrim Legendary Edition.
I may have screwed up my Dawnguard questline and i cannot be arsed to start the whole game over, i already have my nifty Crossbow and plenty of ammo(and the knowledge to make ammo!).
-
Quite happily bought some little games here and there, my favourite is currently Long Live the Queen.
:/ Ok, I really just couldn't decide on what to buy. Picked up Kinetic Void and Bully. Passed over X-Com for some stupid reason (think it was wallet related) and I am going to really regret that over the next few months.
-

Look into using console commands to reset the quest itself, or to progress to the next state. I got stuck on another quest with the mage's college, and I just hacked it through to the next bit.

I've just finished The Witcher 1 the second time, this time on hard. :) An interesting experience, really had to put those potions to good use, especially early on. Though at higher levels it's still kind of easy.
-
FYI, Enemy Within is currently 50% off for those looking for it.
-
And Natural Selection 2 is a staggering 90% off. For $2.50, I suggest all of you try it out.
-
Speaking of, VVVVVV is all of 50 cents right now. If you don't buy that or already own it, you're insane.
Here's a bit of sale weirdness: Just Cause 2 is 80% off today, and even though it can't run on my current OS, I finally caved and bought it because I apparently hate having money. There were several little random DLC items at about the same discount, so I tacked those on too since it was like a buck total. However, all of those DLC items are also bundled together...yet the bundle has just a 50% discount, so you'd pay more that way. That's some math fail on someone's part. :D
-
damn, steam is borking for me right now and I can't add anything to my shopping cart
edit: Works on my web browser. Steam client just doesn't want to work for some reason...
-
Steam and steampowered.com are both down for me
DOUBLEPOOOOSSSSST: For some reason, I now have three 50% coupons for Crusader Kings II, so if anybody wants one, let me know and I'll shoot it on over. I also have a 75% off on Lunar Flight that's free to the first person who wants it. (All coupons offered freely, no trade required or expected)
-
broke down and bought skyrim. i've never played any kind of fantasy RPG games before (unless you count zelda), but i figured with all the insane hype surrounding it and for only $8 i can give an entirely new genre a try. now i have to decide if i start playing that or something else from my backlog. major items there include KOTOR, the entire half-life series, and all those fallouts i got for free + new vegas. although i tried fallout 1 briefly already and it didn't take.

Fallout gameplay can feel a bit out-of-place and awkward for most people who aren't used to turn-based combat in a game that otherwise plays in real-time. Especially early on when your first encounters are with mutated rats and scorpions and weapons are pistol or spear at best.
Because of the turn-based combat, the trick to success in combat without losing half of the hair on your head lies with having enough action points. It has been very long time since I played either F1 or F2, but if I remember correctly it was best to take 8 points of agility to gain 8 action points. More than that took too many points away from other stats. Also, even though the interface only shows up to 10 action points, you can go over it. The game track any extra action points even if they aren't showing up in the interface. So make use of those perks and everything else that can increase agility or action points. IIRC there is even a perk that allows you to always be the first to move in a combat.
All that said, I always wished Fallout had same kind of real-time combat as Baldur's Gate did.
-
Fallout 2 is a much different game from the first. If you don't get high agility then you've completely messed up your character, because all of your enemies are going to practically have agility maxed out (or have the special +4 movement perk). By the time you get Power Armor (assuming you aren't gaming the system), any strength penalty you took to put the points in something else is rendered meaningless since the game is pretty much over.
Oh, and the mechanics involving how accurate you are are bull**** in the second game. "You have maxed out perception, luck, small guns at 120%, and the accuracy perks? Well in that case, you have a 50% chance of hitting the guy just down the street with your military grade assault rifle -- in his leg."
-
Have you ever actually tried shooting at someone?
It's a lot harder than it looks.
-
Have you ever actually tried shooting at someone?
It's a lot harder than it looks.
#1. I'm talking about a video game that uses tabletop mechanics, not real life.
#2. I plead the Fifth. //of course I haven't, I'm not a cop or a soldier;
#3. I have legally fired a number of weapons at a shooting range before, though. And yes, it is more difficult than most people would think.
#4. But if my statistics and skills say that I'm the offspring of Neo and Lyudmila Pavlichenko then I should damned well be able to hit something that's across the street wherever I please. Combine this with the fact that in the first game, this wasn't an issue.
