...for my sister Anne. Those of you who went to Warpstorm might remember her as Ella, the girl who would show up every few months and rave about sporks and other random topics.
She's been spending the summer working at a camp two hours away from our house, and recently, she's been acting strangely. She hasn't been eating anything during meals, and she's been having night terrors. She's been waking up in the middle of the night screaming. We aren't exactly sure what's going on with her, so my parents are on their way to pick her up and bring her home tonight. I'm hoping that she'll be okay, but I don't think so.
-
If it's anything like the summer camps I went to, that's the sensible reaction.
Homesick? Doesn't sound too bad to me.
-
I doubt that it's homesickness. She's been away from home before, and this hasn't happened. She's also 16, so she's outgrown the homesickness thing.
-
Then it sounds like one of the camps I went to. I dunno.
-
I don't think it could be anything too serious....I hope not anyways. Hope it's nothing, she needs to get back to normal and inform us about sporks :D
-
You've been to summer camps where people had night terrors?
-
I have heard of cases similar to this; some sort of medical thing, so you might want to consult a psychologist or something.
-
I'll talk it over with my psychologist when I see him Monday. Maybe he'll have a clue what's going on.
And whatever it is, it's bad enough that the camp director called us and suggested that she come home. The only time I can remember her ever doing that was the year I worked there when another staff member developed a seizure disorder and had to go to the hospital. So I doubt it's something small. You can tell why I'm worried.
-
Praying. :yes2:
-
Well I can only hope that your sister is OK but you should wait for a doctors opinion before getting worried.
-
It sounds psychological of course, nothing physical. So she may just need medication or something IF anything is really wrong at all. But yea, praying now ;) Tell us how she does

I intend no disrespect as I do not know your sister but I think eating disorder should not be ruled out. Not eating will manifest neurological symptoms such as night terrors. The first system affected by an eating disorder is the nervous system because it cannot function without carbohydrates. It uses them quickly and cannot substitute any other form of organic fuel.
Of course that is only one possibility. Not eating is more likely to be another symptom than it is to be the cause. Simply because it is the simplest diagnosis it will be checked first. The next guess would be anxiety. If she has never had anxiety symptoms before then it may be focused anxiety based on a certain stimulus factor present at the camp or a recent event. There are many other possibilities but it doesn't sound like something permanent.
I hope that info eases your worries some. And of course, my prayers are with her.

Man, was that a specific answer. :D
Best luck for your sister, hope it's not anything serious. :)

Warpstorm is still open, it's just buried in Libra Wars (http://www.librawars.com) now.
Hope your sis is okay Graff.

Er...I realize you were trying to crack a joke, but not many are gonna find the humor in it. Then again, I guess this is nothing new to you. ^^;;

Wow i can read his mind.....:hits an0n with rubber mallet:
*praying*

Actually, this time I was actively trying to annoy people.....well, anyone stupid enough to think prayer works.
As for the girls....err...condition, I'd say she's either just plain going crazy, been raped out in the woods or has been bit by some wierd-ass bug and the toxins are screwin her over.
Also, that was supposed to say "due" not "die". Freudian slip I suppose.
EDIT: Hmmm. There's an invisible user that ain't me. Uh-oh.
-
don't take this personally an0n but...
would an Admin please kick his ass for that last post?
Everyone loves a joke but come on!
(for the record, I'm not too religious myself but if offering it makes other people feel better then its worth something)

That only works if you believe it. Otherwise it's just patronizing them.
-
Ahhh flaming religious argument!!!
*alarm goes off*
*grabs anti-spam helmet and jumps in the designated foxhole*
-
It won't end up as a religious argument. It'll end up as either "Reasons why an0n should be banned" or a discussion of my calousness. I can't wait.
-
oh...ok...phew that was close.
*puts helmet back up*
-
Or we could just let it slowly fall down the page and not ruin Graff's thread?
(chances of that = 0 )
-
Its moments like these that shake my faith in freedom of speech.
:sigh:
(Apologies to ^Graff for my being party to the taking off of topic of this thread.)
-
*decides to get thread back on topic*
So, what's her condition now?
-
well, I was getting tired of ten posts in a row that all said the same stupid thing... :p :D
Anyway, I suppose you got a chance to talk to her by now; how is she doing?

You'd actually waste time and go out of your way to annoy religious people who you think are stupid?
Wow you're dumb.

****...sounds awful, i really feel for you.
.... it's possible it's depression, or something akin to that. A friend of mine was hospitalised for a while when he was at uni (away from home) as a result of that, and it can have some pretty 'odd' symptoms I think... but it is treatable and (although it took the best part of a year) my mate is basically fully recovered.
I hope everything works out.

Indeed.
Lack of self worth, unfounded paranoia, bad eating habits, insomnia, despair... And that's just how I felt.

She went back to camp last night. She claims that there's nothing wrong; apparently, she didn't know that anyone suspected anything. She just thought that our parents were picking her up for her day off. We observed her behavior, and it was nothing out of the ordinary.
As for the part about eating, it was because the camp frequently serves chicken, something that Anne refuses to eat. We raised pheasants a few years ago, and ever since, she hasn't eaten poultry of any kind. And she talks, laughs, crys, etc in her sleep every night (she did that before she went to camp). It's just that she's sharing a room with several other staff members, and she keeps them up at night. It turned out that it was just the camp director overreacting. Everything is fine, thankfully.

Good to hear. :)

I can certainly understand the part about not eating chicken - yuck. Hmm... we need a :yuck: smiley. :D

good to hear she's ok.
The last time she was on warpstorm, i ended up ranting about the wonderfulness of sporks for the next week.
Sporks are great.
