It is coming... (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=84705.0) and soooon, it will be heeeere.
The Homeworld-like Void Destroyer officially launches on January 15th, and looks really cool.
PRE-EDIT: OK so I wanted to give a first-hand impression of how it is, rather than say it "looks really cool" and...
It is pretty cool. It's got a very steep learning curve, because it's doing all sorts of things at once. It's part Freelancer, where you can fly a ship and fire turrets or let the turrets go nuts on AI. It's part Homeworld where you build ships and stations and command them around. And it's a lot of Nexus with the more pokey, labored ship tactics than Homeworld.
OK, so the controls take a lot of getting used to, and the interface could use some work. And it's a little buggy still. But everything feels, looks, and sounds amazing.

I backed it back in the day. Can't wait.
But I can wait...let the bigs be fixed.

Them plastifying shaders...
Game-play looks good, but I'll wait for community game-play vids. Those are what I use to see if I wanna buy now-a-days.

Interesting. My problem with this as with all kickstarter projects has been that I am unwilling to pay for a product that I can't guarantee I will receive, or will be of suitable quality. Once it's out though, people can review it and I can see whether it's worth my time and money. I'm hoping that it is, especially if it's as mod friendly as the creator makes it out to be. Will be keeping an eye on this over the next few weeks.
[EDIT]Heh, seems MatthTheGeek has already put BP ships into it. I guess it just might be pretty moddable after all! :D

I backed this ages ago, but I haven't played in a while (several versions behind even before the move to Steam). Apparently the new graphics look amazing, so I've been meaning to check it out again soon (and since I just beat Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, I guess my plate is free).

OK, so it wasn't like properly released on Wednesday. I think that was just "officially hit Steam Early Access" day. There's still plenty of time to clean up the presentation a bit, improve the controls a smidge, and tighten up the graphics on level 3.

Will they be adding any colors to the game other than brown?

So far, a funny game, but for reasons unknown to me, I cannot capture the base in the second mission, so I keep sending marine frigates in and grind anything into dust which launches...

I think I ran into that same thing. Just take direct control of the frigates and drive them into the capture point/docking bay thing. Like I said, it's not quite done yet.

There's blue! Lots of blue on the command interface.

I did that with nearly 12 frigates^^
