Before we threw everything out and rebooted the campaign, there was the alpha. Pieter Laporte flew his war against the GTVA, Admiral Steele blew up during his first appearance, the Solaris was the Vexor, there was no Fury AI, the Gattler fired .pofs that rapidly capped out the engine, and Darkest Hour marked the closest the Tevs ever got to Earth.
But there were two really, really ****ing awesome trailers.
I must've watched 'Darkest Hour' a thousand thousand times. (http://www.myvideo.de/watch/7096342/Darkest_Hour_Freespace_2_Blue_Planet)
The old Solaris struts its stuff. (http://www.xfire.com/videos/31bc6)
I'm not sure we've ever managed to dig up a playable version of the alpha, or even an intact script - it came before the time of SVN. But enough people are curious about it I thought it'd be worth bringing these back to the public eye.

omg a 30 sec german ad.

I remember that Vexorlaris vs. Titan thing.
IIRC the mission was supposed to be some sort of "opposite" to Forced Entry...though I'm not sure in which sense of it. (In soviet sol, shivans de-beam you?)
-
It was called 'Forced Ejection' and it centered around taking back the node. Here I gotta post the usual disclaimer that information about the alpha's plot is not useful for deducing anything about BP2's unreleased plot.
-
Was BP3's plot changed much as a result of WiH's drastic changes? </not-so-subtle_attempt_to_get_info_about_BP3_plot>

Did BP3 even have a plot back then?

loving the player weapons in the second clip

Wow, the Karuna was much less powerful plot-wise to the Deimos. The old Valarie takes ~ 3 minutes to go down.
-
I also notice that the player is able to literally park on top of the Deimos and just plug away at a subsystem without being mercilessly ushered to the afterlife. Ahhhh, old FS rears its head.

I know right. You could fall asleep and still complete missions.
It feels quite unbelievable to realize how many years have passed since.

some of those old weapon effects are really boss.

and Darkest Hour marked the closest the Tevs ever got to Earth.
But Darkest Hour still is the closest the Tevs have gotten to Earth, isn't it? Is there something you'd like to share with us? ;)

tev victory confirmed, break out the security council jerseys

I believe I still have the Solaris trailer backed up on some hdd somewhere. I downloaded it back in the day and reuploaded to youtube after the original was deleted. Good stuff.
