Title: Problem with Age of Aquarius

Try as I might, I can't seem to find a solution to this issue:
No matter what settings I tinker with, attempting to play Age of Aquarius sticks me with the screen proclaiming "Blue Planet does not support screen resolutions under 1024x728, please increase your resolution in the launcher settings". Every resolution I attempt to set meets with the same results.

I have a fresh install of of the Blue Planet Complete package, running the fs2_open_3_6_17_SSE2_BP.exe, resolution set to 1680 x 1050, etc. etc. Not sure why it won't register that I'm running it at high resolution... does anyone know what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Hey, should be an easy fix - Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Try adding -res 1680x1050 to your custom flags (if you're using Launcher 5.5g, put that in the Custom Flags line under the Features tab).

That build has a well-known pilot corruption bug. Try a more recent one (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83318.0).

I tried adding the custom resolution flag - didn't help

Tried using the newer fs2_open_3_7_1_SSE2_BP... same issue

Okay, here's the issue. The game believes you have the res set to 800x600.

Move your whole install directory to C:\Games\FreeSpace2 instead of C:\ Program Files. Set your resolution again from there, then try running. If that doesn't work, try the -res 1680x1050 trick again, making sure to paste it into the custom flags field (are you using Launcher 5.5g or WXLauncher?) If that doesn't work, please generate another debug log while you've got that -res flag in your command line and post it.

Good lord, it's still doing it, even though you have the command line flag set. Could you disable the 'run in a window' option? What's your monitor's native resolution?

FreeSpace stores your resolution data in a registry entry, as far as I know. For some reason that registry entry isn't being written correctly, or some other file involved in saving your launcher preferences isn't being written to. I'm gonna ask The_E to take a look at this.

The good news is that this isn't a Blue Planet issue, just an issue with your FSO setup.

Try closing the launcher, closing FreeSpace, right clicking the launcher, and selecting 'run as administrator'. Configure the resolution and settings the way you'd like it and it should work.

Ok, closed everything out, set everything to run as an administrator, reset the settings back to max resolution... still nothing, with or without the resolution command line, and even attempting to mess with compatability settings did nothing...

This is obnoxious. Please post the contents of your launcher6.ini from your FreeSpace 2 directory, then go to FreeSpace2/data/ and post the contents of cmdline_fso.cfg.

I believe there are issues on some new OS with user data being stored in weird or protected locations. The_E could this be one of those?

The problem can't be the launcher6.ini nor the launcher itself given that the debug log shows the flags are correctly parsed.

I have no clue here. FSO does read the command flag but still gets forced to 800x600 somehow. This needs to be looked at by coders.

What's your monitor's native resolution?
This seems like a very good question to have the answer to.

Another attempt at troubleshooting: try a different resolution, like 1024x768.

... huh, I guess i didn't answer that question after all. I was in the middle of replying when there was another post, and ended up retyping everything and omitting the resolution. My monitor is normally displaying 1680 x 1050... and I have tried adjusting it to see if it would help.

I meant try running FSO at a different resolution, like 1024x768, and providing a new debug log of that experiment.

Oh, gotcha: I did that, tried it with 7 or 8 different resolutions, all with the same result: It keeps thinking that it's running in 800 x 600, seemingly no matter what I do.

Hrm... I haven't had the retail discs for years, and my current digital copy doesn't contain it. Is there any way to get hold of just that file without having to buy an entirely new copy of the game?

I think I squeeled like a little girl when I saw that Act 3 of War in Heaven was released... absolutely, hands down, one of the greatest gaming experiences I've ever had. Hence trying to get it up and running again so I can play through Blue Planet from the beginning!
