Title: Has Kojima finally lost the polot?
Post by: FireSpawn on April 10, 2014, 09:31:27 am
Lets talk about Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes.

I've just finished wattching N3RD3's video on MGS 5, and I think that the game will be the death of the series. in N3RD3's video, he ends with a segment about a particularly ****ed up audio tape that you get as a reward.  After listening to it myself, I just fail to see the point of it other than to appeal to the people who get off on that kind of stuff, and extreme grimdark lovers.

I mean, I understand that the series has some real dark moments, (Grey Fox's story, Vamps backstory, each of the B&B Brigade) but this takes the bloody biscuit. It doesnt seem to add to the game other than making you hate the "Villain" more, except it's backfired and I hate the creator.

Spoiler:
The tape is 10 minutes long, and has Paz getting beaten in front of Chico, then stipped and what sounds like raped while he was forced to watch. Then afterwards, HE was forced to rape her by their captors, and afterwards, when they get put back in their cells, Paz comes on to Chico Now if I remember in Peacewalker, Paz is 16 and Chico 12/13, so what makes it worse i(if that's possible) is that they are bloody kids

To me, the last nail in the coffin was Rising, but this has just poured cement into the grave.

What do you guys think? Feel the same way? Think I'm an idiot? Or maybe someone can see the verrrrrrry well hidden...thing that will turn this around and fix the series?

Rising was probably the second-best thing Metal Gear has ever produced, but this does seem pretty stupid.

Maybe we should use this thread to talk about how ****ing great Rising was.

Rising is the best. I love that game so much, it was for once a Metal Gear game I could enjoy, because it bloody well knew how stupid it was and revelled in it completely (It's also pretty awesome on a pure gameplay level)

Agreed. I'm playing through it on PC right now, and other than the abysmal camera and controls it's easily one of the best hack 'n slash games I've played.

I admit that rising is a great game, it's just not a great Metal Gear, game. And i think this must have a poll.

I think Kojima had been trying to kill MGS since 2... They wont let him work on anything else over there. He often talks about how he'd like to do something else. But between the upper management and the death threat sending fanatics, well...

I think he's been trying to express how it feels to work on MGS on a psychological level: An animal in a cage often beaten and humiliated by the people who claim to "idolize his work."

Also, I got no plans to play Rising. I feel free of Metal Gear after not playing any for so long... I'd rather not get that addiction back and end like the fans constantly needing stronger dozes of Grimdark for it to have any effect.

There's nothing grimdark about Rising, and I don't know how the **** anyone would get 'addicted' to Metal Gear. It's so maximalist you could binge out on a single game.

I couldn't even get through more than 20 minutes of the first MGS before thinking "WTF is this" and putting it aside, so I dunno. :p

Aww, you only had like, 40 minutes to go before they let you play :(

Ha.  Honestly, even beyond the cringe-inducing dialog, it was that goddamned fixed-isometric camera view.  That is like my single-greatest pet peeve across any and all action games.  It didn't help that I'd played Splinter Cell beforehand, and the freelook camera there is just soooo much more liberating.

I've got the series apart from ghost babel and acid, I don't really play peacewalker much. I don't want to pay twenty odd quid for a prologue either.

Metal gear has for me, been about the METAL GEAR. I'm looking forward to the hospital sequence in mgsv but can wait til cheaper.

I wish they'd just let Kojima remake Policenauts or Snatcher, the latter could use an epilogue and the former aside from a fan translation never came out here. Hell, that Xbox One exclusive mission for Ground Zeroes has references to Snatcher.
