Title: Please insert disc two. From gog download.
Post by: ginger_spits on April 15, 2014, 11:00:39 pm
I checked the FS2/FSO known issues thread and didnt see this error listed. If I missed it I'm sure you'll let me know.

So, I recently just found out about this whole gigantic community, got excited and made plans to download FS2 from GOG and then FSO from here, which I did today. I followed the instructions to the letter, and got everything set up. The first thing I noticed was there was no cutscene, no biggie I saw that in the known issues and will fix it later; but then when I tried to play, i got please insert disc two.... lolwut

So if anybody has the patience to toss me some ideas of why that happened that would be great.

Also I am at work so I cant try out any fixes tonight and if all else fails, I have a buddy who is far more computer literate than I am who will help me restart the process.

-Thanks in advance.

Were you running FSO (should be something like fs2_open_3_7_0.exe or fs2_open_3_7_1-20140320_r10507) or the old "FS2.exe"? Also, have you patched the game to version 1.2 (I don't know if the GOG version already does this)?

Fairly certain I was running FSO. Now that you say that I probably ran FS2.exe because I opened that game via the desktop shortcut. Should I have paid more attention to the "launcher" where you activate all the MediaVPs?

Definitely launcher.
The Gog download normally runs flawlessly.

I misspoke. Is there a way to run the game from the launcher? I'm betting yes, I just didn't put 2+2 together and realize that's the whole point of calling it a launcher.

Are you using wxLauncher or the old SCP launcher? The SCP one has four buttons at the bottom, and "run" runs FSO. You can also just create a shortcut to the correct FSO executable, put it wherever you want, and run that, since you really only need the launcher to change settings like graphics settings or the mod FSO is using.

When I went to download the FSO build 3.7.0, I downloaded the windows launcher 5.5g. That being said, I'll look at it in the morning when I get off work and try to run it from that instead of the FS2.exe, adn if it doesnt work I'll restart the whole process and get the wx launcher. Thanks for the help Shivan Hunter.

FYI I'm running windows 7, I just noticed that the 5.5g launcher doesn't run with win 8

Which is why we recommend using wxLauncher (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0), which doesn't have these issues.

np!

also fyi

restart the whole process and get the wx launcher

you won't need to redownload or reinstall FS, just install wxLauncher.
