Title: New Model
Post by: Joey_21 on July 05, 2001, 08:07:00 pm
This thing is going to be featured in System Madness II. This is a more advanced RBC (like the Mjolnir). It uses an Advanced Energy Compression Reactor (AECR). That way, it can shoot vast amounts of beam energy and not explode.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Kudos to Woomeister for the texture job, the turret subobjects, and misc. help with stuff in FSMM2.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

(Yes, that is an Argo docked to it in the picture)

Edit: Forgot the specs.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
- Ability to maneuver around for better targeting
- 2 beam cannons (one for rear anti-fighter defense, one for anti-caps)
- 1 dockpoint for energy core replacing use

Nice work Joey and Woo, I hope it moves slowly though otherwise it would be rather devestating in groups.

The rotation time is about 10. I don't think you'll be expecting these in groups. Maybe 1 at a time. They're awefully expensive to manufacture.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Yeah... that's what I'm talking about... Mjolnir that can turn!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Also... did you make sure that the forward point of the model is the beam part of it? ... not like the Mjolnirs where you point them to something in FRED2 and the beam points in a completely different direction.

Joe.

I realized how much of an annoyance that the Mjolnir was so yes, I designed the model to have the turrets facing forward (backwards for the anti-fighter turret).

I believe Volition designed the Mjolnir like that because it would spin better in the tech database...

Blame NBCI. I think I might make a complaint about this. This is the 3rd time in less than a week!    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)

Two animations of the Lupercus are up (basically command briefing animations I'm going to be using).

Spin animation ("http://jgmart.tripod.com/cb_lupercuspin.zip")
Fire animation ("http://jgmart.tripod.com/cb_lupercusfire.zip")

That's damn sweet! One weakness, though (not a bad thing about it) - as a defense mechanism, it will have to turn to take down capships and fighters in the same area kind of thing. Right?

Well, the anti-fighter defense turret is on the rear. Most of the attention is on the capital ships. The "front" of the Lupercus is the anti-cap turret. If the Lupercus turns to fight a capital ship and it loses lock of the fighter behind it, then escort will have to take over unless the fighter goes back into the line of sight of the rear turret.

Edit: BTW: The Lupercus turns in all directions 360 degrees on all axes.

Heheh, they might get too scared if we took down a couple of Sathanases with it.
