Does your habit of cross-posting these threads across multiple forums qualify as an esport?
-
The Total War forums, the MMO Champion forums...I'm not going to bother continuing to hunt, that was just the first-page material I bothered to click on.
-
The last time you crossposted threads, Nakura, it was with the explicit and admitted(!) intent to troll. Please explain why this isn't more of the same, given the rather moronic and blatantly ****-stirring premise of the initial post.

I don't agree with you often but that was ****ing funny. Thanks
-
Not trying to stir ****, but it seriously looks more like a LoL vs Dota thread in the guise of an eSports discussion
On that note, the following is significant enough to qualify it as profitable. Once it stops being profitable, it should no longer be an eSport
-
I wouldn't concern yourself with this Nakura. It reminds me of debates about whether the likes of chess and tiddlywinks should be considered sports or not. Is it a sport? Is it a competition? Is it a game? Does it really matter?
The people who hand out the prizes at the end of the day are only going to be concerned with making money. That's why the gaming industry as a whole has moved away from games designed for avid gamers, and on to catering more for the casual gamer. I imagine the e-sports thing is much the same. You can't stop it.
Don't worry about it. If you want to try and cater for the old school, you can. No one's stopping you, just like no one's stopping game developers who still target the avid gamer market.
-
My views on this topic are less "LoL, an eSport?" and more "lol, eSports."

1. Chess is a sport and if FIDE wanted, it could probably be included in the Olympic Games for instance since the Olympic Committee also agrees that chess is a sport.
2. Sports by definition are competitions.
3. Most sports can be considered games, and chess is one of them.
4. Yes, it matters because qualifying as a sport allows for lots of funding opportunities, either via companies and/or government.

Should trolling be considered an Esport?

Should trolling be considered an Esport?
I think Battuta scored that goal already.
-
Two point conversion
-
I think Battuta scored that goal already.
That was actually a response to Ghostavo biting on Lorric.

I was answering his questions, since I see lots of subjects where people rhetorically say "does X really matter?" and often the answer is "yes, yes it does.".
Or do you mean that Lorric was trolling? Either way, if someone takes something new from my answer, it was worth responding.
-
LoL, that sounds like a funny game.
-
Funny little universe you live in where DotA/DotA2 are eSports and LoL isn't. They're both just onehand noskill MOBA trash that should die in a fire, but apparently people love to play and watch that ****, it sells, and can feed progamers, so sure, they can be eSports too.
Wait, what? Up until this point, everything you posted was perfectly legitimate. Why hate on MOBAs and not, say, quick scoping CoD or some other bull**** game like Smash Bros. (which I love dearly)
T'was a joke, and mainly there as "I'm not a LoL fanboy." (In fact I've never actually played LoL).
Oh, okay. I'm not either (mostly because I don't have the skill/time to be competitive), but I thought you were hating on a genre. My bad.
-
Or do you mean that Lorric was trolling?
Not on purpose, but given that he's still allowed to post after once advocating the sexual assault of fictional characters from a hosted mod, I'd argue literally every Lorric post is an elaborate troll.
-
Guys, we don't need a dozen posts debating whether the thread is trolling or not. If Nakura is in fact trolling, then that's just feeding the troll; if he's innocent, then it's trampling over his thread.
The thread has been reported by two people, and it is being discussed in the moderation forum. An official response will be forthcoming.
-
if someone takes something new from my answer, it was worth responding.
For the record I did. It was a good point.
-
What is this ruckus?
And who cares what was posted on other forums?
I don't see how that affects anything on this forum (or is in fact relevant to it's moderation)
-
That's probably why you're not a moderator.
In any case, I don't see anything else positive coming out of this thread, so I'm going to lock it.
-
Small bump to follow up with the official response. The eSports thread will not receive any sanction, but Nakura has been told not cross-post any more threads. Violation will result in tangible penalty.
