Yeah, it's still alive and kicking ...
As many of you know, Red5 has his computer stolen. Though this is very unfourtunate and really not good, i still wish to complete the mod for Armada. I have done quite a bit of work on the mod. I have made a few models like the Tuamatef and the Tanager. I have even managed to do most of the Terran and Vasudan Build Buttons.
What I ask, is if someone could help us convert the original FS:TGW/FS2 models over to SOD. It is not an impossible task, I have proof. The Iceni was converted and is waiting for the other models to be aswell. If anyone has or could convert the models to FS2, please e-mail me [email protected]
any help would he appreciated.
If anyone has converted any of the models to MOD for SFC then that would be helpful too.

Actuallly I believe they do.
www.Armadafleetcommand.com hosts a number of mods for armada 1 & 2.
I'd help but I STILL can't get a storm plugin to download properly. 8 times and they're all 'corrupt' zips.

trouble with storm 3d? hm... AFC has alwasy been reliable....
hm... well i still go there to grad the latest in new ships an such.
as for the site, Thorn posted it, but I am looking to move the site.... Red5 had a place for us... a WC site i believe...

Armada 2 hopefully.
it looks prmoising cept one tihng. I checked hte site and a bunch of the shisp were like made up units and ships and cap ships. I know u have to improvise a lil, but u should try to stick with the normal FS ships first imho.
Lets just use armada as a hypothetical template. lets say u make ships liek the meymadon, perseus, erinyes, hercules and such replace the lower end ships like the venture sabre and defiant. then for the advanced shipyard stuff u have cap ships like Deimos, orion and Hecate and for the super ship that each race has (or tech or wahtever) have the Colosuss.
I know your trying to create a mod and not follow armada but it could work that way too..... i dunno w/e

Are you bad mouthing My Caliburnus? :P take a look at it my gallery there.... I light mapped it now, it looks better that the pic there.
There is a reason why I have been making "made up units and ships and cap ships", I currently do not have the real FS ships to accually start taking snaps of.... here is the list of models I have in the proper SOD format:
NTF Iceni
GTB Medusa
GTB Zeus
GTF Loki
GTF Ulyesses
GVB Osiris
PVN Anubis
GVFr ...freighter...?
GVF Seth
SF Nephiem
and my Cali. so far.... I did not convert them, That was Darkdrone's doing... I need someone to convert the rest of them.... Then I wouldnt have to screw around with building new ships and I could accually get the mod done. If I had all the models converted all I would need to do is some ODFs, tech trees, some basic AI stuff, and finish the GUIs and it would be ready for Beta testers to begin their testing. in all it would not take longer than 2 weeks (less if done right) to set up all that. I am commited to doing it, and I am fairly good at doing this sort of thing. So as long as models are converted, the mod will proceed.
about replacing each and every fed ship... that takes too long, I can make new ones faster and not get confused with "Fcruise" and "Fbattle" with the Orion or what have you. I was making it for Armada 2.... an A1 mod may follow if there is a demand for it. I think I prefer the Lightmaps in A2, and real 3d gamplay rather than the A1 flat field. I may do the A1 mod just for the hell of it, but it would require more work on the models as they would not have lightmaps or bumpmaps, and fighters would be another issue.... the Carrier ships would be not very good.... well, as long as I can get the ships into SOD, I am happy. A1 SODs can be used in A2 no problem.

so anyone interested in helping convert the models? Also I think we have a few more positions open...
currently we have:
auxillery modeller: me for making "other" models and the whole new line of stations... if ysomeone has any stations that would help alot.
Texturer: ....I am making GUIs, but if anyone would like to help texture weapons and ships... Someone good at making the main screen is still needed.
buttons and wireframe: I have a head start with this, most of the Terran and some Vasudan buttons are done, but yet again, I need the models to finish the rest.
sound coordinator: I have original sounds from FS2, but crew and ship voices are still needed...
ODF editor: I have a number of them prepared. Devils_Hitman and Red5 were doing Shivan and Vasudans..
tech tree: I have planned much of it out, and I am working on it, but I need the models to link with the ODFs...etc.
sprite person: GUI is not too difficult, can be done without much trouble.
AI speciallist: now this is an issue, I can do the A!, but i think someone else maybe better than me, and I want the AI to beat the player on a one-on-one. The A! has to be tough.
Movie maker: I think if we could make a new opening intro, that would make the mod all the more better, huh? Devils_Hitman said he will take this one....
then after it's done, we need testers, but dont apply to that until we have the models converted. The models ensure that the mod will procced....

okay... As I understand, alot of people here use Lightwave... If you have converted a model to LWO can you send me one? I think I may have a way of converting the models if they are in Lightwave....
please respond to this...

that really doesnt matter..... as long as someone that uses it has converted some of the models to LWO i may be able to convert them to SOD. Thorn said he has a number of them in Lightwave.....

I have just about every ship/model in .3ds format, all the ships and cargo at least.
And I thought the SOD converter was for 3S max?
And that AI you want sounds ike a royal b!tch because not everyone is at the same skill when it comes to games like that. I can handle the AI on armada, but on say, StarCraft, I get my ass handed to me unless I use the money cheats. (Without fail, I always get two AI's going after me at least and I can't defend against two with basic resources.)
Oh, and does the mod have the same issues that armada 1 did? (referring to how larger ships can spin around rapidly to change directions and such, figured out how to stop them from getting pushed around by other ships though, really evident in the STvsSW conversion).

yes the SOD exporter plugin is for 3d studio Max. Can you convert the models to SOD? If you are converting to Armada 2 SOD can the opaque thing be on? models can use alpha channel Lightmaps if that is used.
Well The AI has to woop ass every time. even the most experienced players will have trouble fighting just 1 AI.
No I am working hard to make sure that never happens. The Beta Testers will be required to test every ship to see if they are true enough to Freespace. Of course some of the mod will have to be less than perfect to FS, as we want balance with other players.... sort of....

Good news. I finally managed to get the models, and I will begine converting them to SOD... after i correct the textures a bit.
Well, since that crisis has been adverted, I think its time to move on too other things about the mod. mainly, I want to know everyones ideas for special weapons and other "neat" things you would like to see. dont worry about the ship turning rates, that will be fixed in the physics files.
I will soon get some screen shots in a few days after the model work is finished.
I am excited about the mod now, it's totaly gonna rock!

I would like to include the Athena, Scorpion, and whatever models that FS1 had that FS2 scrapped. would someone mind sending me the models (in FS POF) and the textures?
