In another thread there was a brief discussion about how the Colossus would have done in Sol against the UEF if it had survived FS2 (the consensus seemed to be it wouldn't have done well at all).
However, if the GTVA had built more Iceni class frigates and sent at least one to fight the UEF, how would it fare against the UEF (I'm assuming it like many other capships would have at least some fighter support)?

IIRC the Iceni has pretty good anti-capital firepower, but poor anti-fighter firepower. i.e. the same as the Colossus, so I'd expect that it wouldn't do so well either.
-
It certainly wouldn't be able to compete with TEI corvettes, that's for sure.
-
TEI Corvettes would probably be by and large superior to (unaltered) mass-produced Icenis. While the Iceni is a pocket destroyer, and has excellent firepower for it's size, it's only weakness is that it lacks flak of any kind. It'd probably be chewed up by Federation fighter superiority.
The only thing I can see it as being is as some kind of expendable destroyer-grade firepower thingy, maybe tossed in when the GTVA really wants something dead.

There is nothing an Iceni can do that a Diomedes can't. The reverse is not true.
Seriously, the Diomedes is better in pretty much every way.
-
I think the Iceni is more comparable to the Chimera than the Diomedes, to which end it's still clearly obsolete. And since it doesn't have the multirole ability of the Deimos or the carrier capacity of the Orion, it really has no place in Sol.
Though if there's one thing the GTVA should have learned from it is that if you have something that you don't want getting disabled, like, say, a logistics ship, it should really have redundant engine subsystems.

The Iceni has both flak and AAA during the SOC loop, the only time it's actually used in combat.
