Title: Jedi Knight II and III have been open-source for a year!
Post by: Kiloku on May 03, 2014, 12:04:04 am
I didn't even know when it was released.
This looks like history repeating itself, a beloved game has it's source code released and fans strive to keep it supported and improved!
I think we should take a look, join, help out, etc.

This is their Open Source Project forum: http://jkhub.org/forum/49-openjk/

(As a bonus, both games are currently 66% off on Steam, for May the 4th, I think)

PS. I'm totally imagining a double mod suite that somehow connects a match of FSO to OpenJK.

I could totally see a mod about being one of those poor ****s badass GTA marines on 'hallfight' or missions during the Terran-Vasudan war. You don't get to play a Vasu, because GAIA THEY GOT ****ING SWORDS.

What I'd like to see is an FSPort-style remake of the earlier games (starting with Dark Forces :) ) to the new engine. Especially the original JK+expansion. They were very good games, but hardly aged well (it's difficult to even get them to run now).

There is a mod remaking Dark Forces, but I think it doesn't use the OpenJK platform, just uses regular map making.

EDIT: http://jkhub.org/files/file/1540-dark-forces-mod/ There it is. Looks like it's complete!
