Hello, I can't seem to get Blue Planet working, I've tried a few things.
Almost certainly I'm being completely stupid but if someone could help me out that would great.
Thanks a lot.

Your video card seems a bit old (and it's a mobile version?), so I'd recommend removing the adv-bp.vp file (advanced graphical features).
For the same reason you should also install the compatibility VPs (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83606.0).
edit: you also don't need this command line option (-debug_window), it should be used for modder/developer use only.
-
And grab a recent nightly build from the Nightly Builds subforum. If you do those three things (nightly build and Niffiwan's two suggestions) you ought to be in the clear.
-
Ok thanks I'll give that a try.
Yeah it's a horrible old laptop, but I was playing the main campaign in those settings just fine (although burning my lap a little), so assumed it would be fine.
-
Still no luck. Got as far as the 1st mission briefing but since regressed. Have no fear, I'll be back tomorrow with a load of questions and error reports for you to enjoy ;)
-
Just generate and post another log file when you get a chance.

Hi again.
So I removed adv-bp.vp, and got the latest nightly build as advised. Also downloaded BP compatability files, although I notice the OP says "Windows will ask you whether or not to integrate stuff with directories that are already present, you need to give it permission to do so", which it didn't, it just extracted, but the files are there.
With this setup, sometime it won't start at all, with the following error text:
Could not load in 2_CommandBrief-mb!
ntdll.dll! KiFastSystemCallRet
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObjectEx + 67 bytes
kernel32.dll! WaitForSingleObject + 18 bytes
fs2_open_3_7_1_SSE-20140502_r10612.exe! <no symbol>
fs2_open_3_7_1_SSE-20140502_r10612.exe! <no symbol>
Sometime it gets a little further. I get an ingame warning of 49 errors (I've had the same amount on every build and config I've tried), go to title screen, then crash to desktop. Log Attached.
I've tried a load of different builds 3.7.0, 3.71, 3.6.17, with and without SSE.
Using the regular 3.7.1 SSE2 BP build I get to mission briefing where it's asking if I want to read messages, and freezes. Error log also attached.
How have I managed to mess this up? I've redownloaded the installer, if I want to uninstall BP and try again, just delete the BP1 and 2 folders?
Any help is very much appreciated, really want to play this it looks amazing.
Thanks

The engine apparently cannot find the 3.6.12 MediaVPs that BP requires. Make sure you have them installed.
-
I definitely have installed them, I was playing the main campaign with them just yesterday.
Although now I'm looking at it, the freespace2/mediamvps_3612 folder doesn't actually appear to contain any VP files. There are a bunch in the games/freespace2 folder, tango, root etc, and some in both the BP folders.
Reinstall these I guess?
-
Is it possible that there's a folder inside the mediavps_3612 folder that contains those .vp files? If that's not the case, then yeah, you will need to reinstall the 3.6.12 MVPs.
-
Nope, there's just data/cache containing .bx files.
Where did they go
Edit: can I use 2014vps for BP or does it have to be 3.6.12?
-
You can use 2014, probably, but we haven't tested them, and you'll have to manually edit the mod.ini files in both the Blue Planet folders to point to mediavps_2014 instead of mediavps_3612.
There's a risk that you may encounter visual errors. All in all it might be safest to stick with mediavps_3612.

Ok I was getting a bit bogged down so deleted everything and started from scratch.
Blue Planet, AoA at least, running successfully and it looks... just.. beautiful..
Thanks so much for this you lovely people :)
