Hello! Posting this before I head to sleep. Excuse the terseness.
I own Freespace 2 from GOG. I tried to follow the GOG forums quick install guide, but its out of date. So. I installed the latest wx installer and 3.7.1. I also installed 3.4 FS1port.
Here's where it gets tricky. I wasn't entirely sure what mediavps I needed, so I just sort of grabbed the ones from the 2014 thread found on these very forums. Not entirely sure they will work.
Here's what I want. I want to play Freespace 1, in the Freespace 2 engine. Now, I activate the FSPort, but I can see that the 2014 mediavps are below it on the mod list, and if I activate them and run the game goes haywire.
I can activate the FSport mod and it seems to start fine, but it gives me an error with 71 things found.
I havn't played FSport since that old installer (Turneys? Turkeys?) that seems to have fallen out of use. However, so far the game seems to be the same as I remember it, except there is no.. er... energy distribution thingie to the bottom left of the HUD.
I've attached my log, but I'm not entirely sure it contains the proper info. Do I have to fly for it to read the missing files?
Hmm.
Anywhow, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Welcome!
FSPort 3.4 isn't currently compatible with the mediavps 2014. I believe there's a patch to make it work, however for the simplest solution I'd suggest using the FSOinstaller (freshly updated and open for business again) to download FSPort plus the current dependencies. Go to www.fsoinstaller.com, download and run the jar file then follow the prompts. If you have any issues, please post them and we can help you sort them out.

Hi,
Won't he also need the FSPort MediaVPS?
-
Yeah, but the installer should sort that all out.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle! I uninstalled, reinstalled and got the new installer. Everything works great now!
I will say that the installer seems kind of buggy. Despite the fact that all of the downloads I had chosen where finished, it said that two weren't (Tango something and music something. Both related to FSport I believe.)
Thanks for all the help!

Glad it's working for you. Although, with reference to the "installer is buggy" comment, did you have to run the installer multiple times before it said that everything was installed correctly? (because Tango at least is required for FSPort to work correctly).
