Title: Model Conversion
Post by: Liberator on July 16, 2002, 12:51:08 am
Is there a program that allows the conversion of FS and FS2 models and still keep the various submodels(turrets, radar dishes, ECT.) separate?

If you mean FS1 pof > FS2 pof you can use Modview32 or PCS. But I don't know about the submodels though...

Well...at least I tried... hehe

pcs does, it converts a fs2 pof to an err obj i think. it preserves everything. very useful :)

can someone point me in the direction of a tutorial for PCS.  I don't know how to extract just one LOD out using PCS.

you don't. just convert the whole lot, separate the lod you want from the main chunk using trueview or the keyframe animator and delete the rest.

 trueview??
 the keyframe animator??

Before this I was using POF2COB so you'll have to spell it out a little clearer.  Sorry.:( :(

those are things in TS that let you edit the hierarchy with a graphic interface, what version do you have

You don`t need trueview etc. Just go up and down the heirarchy and delete all the other LODs :)

Okay, I figured out how to work the hierarchy navigator but when I load the model(I'm using the Orion for practice) I get this message...

While loading this Object, trueSpace was unable to locate one or more of the following files/objects:

Texture map

These references will be ignored in the loaded Object.

Why is this happening?  I have ALL the Orions textures in the same folder as the model.

they have to BMPs and in a place TS would expect to find them, the folder you have the model in might not be such a place

Yes.  I converted them with 3dExploration v1.5

Where would such a location be?

They are currently located in c:\extracted FS2\terran\destroyers\orion, along with the model.  When I load the newly converted COB from PCS into 3dEx the textures show fine.

In TS it is in the TS main dir > Texture (or maps) subdir... If they are not there the textures won't load... At least not for me...

You should be able to get TS to give you the option to look for the textures. I can`t remember how I did it but I think when the message about not finding the textures pops up, click cancel. It will then give you an option to find the textures. Click on the directory containing the textures and it should texture your model.
