Title: The Lucifer approaches...
Post by: vyper on July 16, 2002, 06:02:23 am
Inspired by a mission (yet to be released) from my campaign, I tried to capture the moment that occurrs just before a battle begins. When the beam cannons are charging and fighters are prearing for launch, like when the player is doing his loadout. While in the distance there is already a minor skirmish going on...

P.S. The poll is because I think this is the best image I've done.

Try just a little bit softening or adding a little motion blur... And when I say a little I mean a little!

mmh, I'd say... well, add shadows to the planet ( that's lunarcell or any 2D plug? postprod then I suppose ) and don't give glows to the stars ( to a couple maybe, but not to all of them ).

Skirmish is just above the planets horizon - you can just see tracer fire between an Aeolus and a Rakshasa

Might be me, but I think you should add nebulae to the background...

Add some more ships to the top of the picture for the skirmish.

Very nice engine glows

just a tip, when you post a link like that, uncheck the box  that says:

Automatically parse URLs: automatically adds [url*] and [/ur*] around internet addresses.

You have to imagine the *'s aren't there, otherwise its a link...
Edit: is anyone else having trouble with voting in polls?

i can see it. right click and click copy shortcut. past that in a new browser window.
looks pretty cool. bring that fight in the background closer and the ships look just a bit sharp. as TCO said, soften the edges a bit :) i like the planet and engine glows.

The fade out on the planet is too distinct at the edge. What you need to do, maybe for your next one, is draw your background first, then run Lunarcell directly on to it, on the same layer, so that Lunarcell will take into account the existing BG when it does it's cool fade out thing.

Also, try and get a very gentle glow effect on to the command guy and the text, decrease the motion blur on the nearby ships and soften the ships in the background a little. These changes may be a little extensive for the image, so you may have to either rebuild it or keep it this way and change things on your next image. Or you can ignore me and do it your way. This is just MHO. :)

i never said it was bad, it's far better than i could do. (bout the best i could do would be a touched up screenie ;) )
and i wonder how an enlarged gryphon would work as a corvette.... :D
