Title: It's Happening

I have accumulated 4TB of bandwidth on mvp.fsmods.net in less than 24 hours, and thus the domain is blasted for the time being.

Thank you Steam release.

I'll try to conjure up some more bandwidth, but you're on your own for now.

Uuuugh. We are not capitalizing on this opportunity as well as we could. Sorry about the demand spike!

I'm getting ready to throw another 2TB into the pool to ease the load, one moment please. MVP user password will change, you will be updated.

It's quick and easy to change the online txtfile to point to another mirror besides fsmods, if one is available.

What about the others in the release thread?  MJN for 2014 (urgh, not sure if slamming his personal website without getting an OK 1st is a very cool thing to do though) and SectorGame for 3.6.12?

I'm getting an unmetered dedicated server into the mix, hang tight.

Yeah... Please don't slam my site with that much traffic until I can work out if I can handle the load.

I'm not sure whether to be excited or scared.

How about both

mvp.fsmods.net is back online with cloudflare backing as one of three mirrors for the files.

Please, if you have a box available to add to the mirror list, do so.

Does cloudflare do direct links?  Because fsoinstaller downloads need to be direct links.

It's DNS based. It'll handle it.

Do you guys need some secondary hosting? I could help.

I could help, too.  I have 5TB of monthly bandwidth with my server--I'd be happy to lend some.  Tell me what files and where to download from and I'll put them at ftp://ftp.fs2open.com/mediavps

The files are the mediavps 3.6.12 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=86475.0) and 2014 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70736.0).  For 2014, the simplest way of getting it at the moment would be the torrent (http://www.lunardigitalproductions.com/downloads/MediaVPs2014/MediaVPs2014.torrent).

Also, Goober5000 can confirm this, but I think the installer needs a plain HTTP link to download from, rather than ftp.

Lastly - thanks for the offers of help! :)

Thanks.  I'll get it set up when I get home after work.

EDIT: if that's the case that the installer won't work with FTP, the files will also be available at http://files.fs2open.com/mediavps.  I'll have them available by both FTP (at the link in my previous post--stupid FTP can't do name-based virtual hosts and Apache won't share an interface with qwebirc on my second IP address...  I should just get a third IP address) and HTTP.

Someone put this stuff up on gameupdates.org (server seeded torrents) and post links. The time is now.

Well it seems traffic has slowed way way down today. It's only accumulated about a half to three quarters of a terabyte.

I think it was just a case of first day rush, and maybe someone doing something nasty. No need for additional mirrors in the immediate future.

I've added Kopachris's mirrors anyway.  This is helpful because 3.6.12 didn't have a mirror previously.

So, we are reasonably certain the server seeded torrent won't be necessary?

I would upload myself as I have an account and know how, but I'm limited to cell, satellite, or public wifi networks at the moment.

The 2014 MediaVPs torrent currently has... 54 seeds that my client can see. I've personally uploaded 7.58 GB and currently have only two peers connected, downloading a total of... 20 kb/s from me. I think our current seeding is fine.

If we have torrenting mirrors, I'd be happy to seed.

Is this a direct reason of problems with SVNs hosted on fsmods? Every commit or update is extremly slow, but it's not caused by my internet connection :(.

Most likely. But at least you're suffering for a good reason!

If we're still getting traffic-slammed, anyone with a Google account can set up a public google drive folder as a mirror.  Let me know if its needed.

Uploaded 933.4 MB here, with no peers currently connected.

Yeah, I've managed to upload 12.7 GB+ in the last two days, peers seem to connect fairly sporadically. With the way the installer works most downloads will be via direct HTTP to the mirrors, it would be super cool to integrate torrents into the installer, but I don't know how hard that would be.

Although... hmmm....

If you do integrated torrents, I would recommend trying to use gameupdates if possible. For the simple reason that having fat channel servers seeding will make the speeds faster and more consistent.

I have a feeling after a hundred GB or so they'd stop that real quick. I also don't know how it would play with direct links.
