@steam_games: The Steam Summer Sale Starts Now!: #SteamSale http://bit.ly/1ioVqrw
*groan*
-
I will not start up steam, I will not click on the pined GoG tab; I will not start up steam, I will not click on ...
-
My body is not ready.
-
I find it suprisingly easy just not to buy stuff, for some reason.
I mean, one look atmy library and...
-
I prefer to not support Steam since I agree with GoG's anti-DRM stance. As a result I'm only getting ****ed in the GoGhole rather than getting double teamed.
Still ****ing hurts though. :p
-
Gog's sale was fun until my credit union thought it was placing fraudulent charges on my account and restricted my credit card for the next few days. :p
-
Planning to buy Tiberium Wars, both Portal games (should have bought em long ago), QUBE, and maybe Kairo, which my brother has gone crazy over.
-
I'm probably just going to watch the flash sales on both GoG and Steam to see if something turns up that I really want, or might like that's really cheap - I already bought the Telltale BTTF game off of GoG yesterday and Mashed on Steam just now (hey, it was under a dollar - I can spare that any day!). I mean, I have a backlog of games already on most of my gaming equipment and I was worried about other things I was considering purchasing from other places too...
Although, knowing my luck, Wargame: Red Dragon is going to get some ridiculous discount now that I bought it a few days ago... :P
-
Due to my immense backlog, I have my list shrunk down considerably and will only be buying Transistor, Dishonored, and DXHR DC, and only if on for 80% or more.
-
Transistor is worth it full price.
-
I'm so poor. I can't afford this. I have utilities to pay. But dear god is half life 2 tempting
-
Ha...I was just thinking a bit earlier that pretty much every interested party ever had to already own a copy of HL2 by this point, but apparently not. :D
-
Transistor is worth it full price.
It would be if my backlog didn't contain the following which have not even been launched:
The Witcher
The Witcher 2
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
and I still have not finished Skyrim and its DLC.
-
All right everybody, stay calm. Remember the rules, and we'll all get through this together:
If it's not on daily, flash, or community sale, you don't need to buy it until the last day of the summer sale.
If it's not more than 50 percent off, wait until the last day of the summer sale, just in case.
And my personal, general rule for saving money: If it's more than $10, even after the discount, you can probably wait.
-
I already broke the daily rule for something on my wishlist, but it was 66% off and under $2 anyway, so I felt safe enough. I'll begrudge them a few dimes if I get burned. :p
-
the only remotely interesting game for me right now is SoaSE: Rebellion, but even thats, eh...
i've found that the number of games i found interesting has dwindled down a lot in the past year. that makes me sad... -.-
[edit] as a side note, just found Carmageddon reincarnation on early access on steam. if it ends up on a sale, i'll be picking it up, but i doubt it will.
[edit #2] red faction guerilla seems like a good buy. i played it before, loved it, could probably get it again...
-
the witcher, $3 (or 5 on GOG). worth it? skyrim is the only pure RPG i've ever played. decided it was worth the $7 or so on one of the last sales to try out. i liked it well enough i suppose. steam says i played 200 hours (i'm a completionist and grinder)
-
The Witcher is definitely worth that. Whilst it has its fair share of grindy quests and the combat model is somewhat weird, the setting and the characters were good enough for me to stick it out.
-
Well, seems like I'm going to have to cut into my firearm budget
I love disposable income. Bring it on steam and gog. Bring it *****es
-
If you're getting Witcher 1, before you boot it up get the Full Combat Rebalance mod. It fixes a lot of the complaints with the original's combat as well as some other stuff.

Does it redo the tutorial, for those of us who never played the original model?
-
Somewhat tempted by Skyrim (never played a TES game before), but I need a new huge timesink like I need several more holes in the head. I've heard The Stanley Parable is a real piece of work too.
-
I've heard The Stanley Parable is a real piece of work too.
Yes. Very unique, surprising and thought provoking. And it's also very short, so if you're stuck for time, that might work for you as well.
-
i broke down and bought rocksmith 2014 due to 75% off sale, along with a **** ton of songs at 25% off. i hate myself now, because i promised i would not buy it because other than having less input lag, it's inferior in almost every other way to the original game, and it has Uplay shoehorned in HARD. i can't ****ing stand this **** with chopping up components of the game and tying them to a third party program and account i absolutely want no part of.
edit: something else i didn't consider fully before buying is now it's going to be a pain in the ass to restore a lot of the DLC to the legit version. i bought almost $80 worth, but there are a few more i'd like to have back but not enough to buy at $3 a pop. and i REFUSE to re-buy the original songs.
-
Is X rebirth worth it now that they have their 2.0 patch? Anybody played it?
-
Not yet. Wait some more.
Game is still SLOOOOOOOW. And I'm not talking about performance (altough it still could use improvmenets), but that some changes make traveling around far slower and more tedious than in X3.
Trade lanes are a LOT slower than jump gates. And are far harder to navigate. In X3, you open the map, take on glance at it and you instantly know how to get to somewhere and you can get there FAST.
In X:R? You're going to have to the use the plot course bottun and you're gonna have to navigate trough several map layers every time.
The economy is borked too b.t.w.

Bought some space games that I've been wanting to play for awhile (Striek Suit Zero and Sins+Expansion).
SSZ is... OK, so far, but not as pretty or fun as FSO, IMO.
-
i noticed that there's a "director's cut" version of it now, and i keep seeing references to a $3 price for owners of the original, but haven't seen how to actually get it for that. steam doesn't seem to be doing it on its own.

I'd really like to win the top three games on my wishlist. Just sayin'...

SSZ is enjoyable, but is focused more on arcade action than the variety of mission design that TIE Fighter and FreeSpace had. So a very different type of game.

just got just cause 2. is there any worth to buying and playing 1 first?

No.
-

No.
Agreed. In terms of gameplay, JC2 is better than JC1. And you don't play Just Cause games for the story.
-
Got Guacamelee: Gold Edition on flash sale for $3. That's edición de oro for serious luchadores like me.
-
They got me for Spec Ops (which I'm not even entirely sure I can run) and Gone Home today. I'm at least under $15 for the whole sale, so that's something.
-
I have bought...NOTHING.
Because I have a will of steel. And balls to match.

GoG are now giving away a free game every few hours. No idea if Still Life 2 or Omerta : City of Gangsters are worth it, but hell, they're free so if I don't like them, all I've wasted is a little bit of time.
-
Worth noting the Bullfrog Bundle is back up, and it's an immense 85% off.
-
I like when I see a good Steam deal pop up and click on it...only to find out that I apparently already own it. And there was another deal today where I had to go and check to confirm that I already had the games on GOG. Yup.
-
Torchlight is FREE on GOG right now

http://www.gog.com/
I was just coming to say that. :)
Torchlight is a game they had up free once before, and I missed it. That has now been remedied. It's highly rated by the critics, so I'll be interested to give it a try sometime.
-
i don't see it.
-
The offer expired, but you're in luck. Check your PMs.
-
I apparently have an extra copy of Torchlight, an extra copy of Magrunner, and two extra copies of The Witcher if anybody wants them.
-
i might have taken you up on the witcher, but i just bought it (for $2) from steam. :) that's really great that GOG does that with the giftable copies. i just bought skyrim legendary edition on steam because it was cheaper than the DLCs individually, but can't give anyone my extra copy of the base game. it's just gone.
-
Hmm, I don't think I've got The Witcher on either GoG or Steam, so if you still have an extra copy, I'm interested :).

I still have one copy; PM me your email address and it's yours.
-
Done.
-
So far I've bought Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion and both seasons of The Walking Dead off Steam. The Walking Dead, like The Wolf Among Us are brilliant games. Haven't bought anything from GOG, I despise their version of flash sales that come and go every two hours. Steam at least has the decency of keeping them going for 8 hours. Not that it really matters though, there's not a single title on GOG I would like to buy that I don't already have.
-
Hi Fury I miss you
-
Okay, that's nice?
-
I swear at Christmas Dishonored went on flash sale three times, and full sale twice. It's been a steady 50% off this time all week. WTF?
I played a bunch of Torchlight ages ago, but I found all the sidemission difficulty scaled quite steeply once you got a ways in, but the campaign itself was overly easy. I dropped it pretty quickly.

They tend to repeat those same flash sales over the course of the sale though. So in the end it's actually fairer to my mind. It's pretty easy to miss an 8 hour sale if it only happens once.
-
You're in luck, MP! The GOTY edition is definitely worth the extra five bucks, the Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches are pretty fantastic DLC.

So who on HLP is the Steam employee, hunh? Fess up, whoever you are =)

If I were a steam employee or knew anyone who worked there the FS2 release wouldn't have been borked, try again
-
in other news, gave in and got myself goatsim.
mixed feelings about those 8€ on it...
-
Accidentally picked up a 4-pack of Blockland instead of a single, so I've still got a couple of copies sitting round doing nothing. It's sortakinda a Minecraft clone, but much more 'Lego' oriented. It's more centered around making multi-play scenarios than anything else from the looks of things, but does at least look fun in that department.
-
I tried to just say no, but I just picked up Strike Vector.
-
Goat Simulatoooooor
-

Right, if by "clone" you mean "made years earlier".
-
Ok, if it avoids arguments, Minecraft is sortakinda a Blockland clone then, and I have 2 spare copies sitting around.
-
Man, I remember playing Blockland years ago, back when it was still shamelessly using actual LEGO minifig models. The back-and-forth in the reviews I read made it seem like there have been some top-down decisions that alienated a decent chunk of the community, though.
-
I really don't know if it's a good thing or not that I'm flat broke, I literally cannot buy anything in the sale with the wallet desperately needed elsewhere.
Games like Saint's Row or Agarest with the seemingly endless DLC spam (especially the former) that murders bank accounts to whoever paid full price... Or Wargame RD... Or something else... Or whatever else that caught my interest for all of five minutes...
Especially when paying in USD :banghead:
-
Is it just me or did GOG give better discounts? I'm not really a fan of steam but the few times I checked out the sale the discounts seem less significant.
-

It's just you. (Also GoG gives bigger apparent discounts because their properties aren't trying to make as much money; you can cut older releases that aren't trying to pay off costs more deeply. At the same time, you're not going to save much money in the absolute that way because prices are lower overall.)

i've personally gotten saints row through humble bundle first actually. that thq bundle was a goldmine of ****ty games and a few genuinely good ones
i've dumped 8€ total into the sale this year. nothing much new of the games came round that interest me in any way or i already own them.
(planetary annihilation was also extremely disappointing, and i really wish i could get those $25 back...)
-

Eh, I bought the Sam and Max games off GOG for 3 bucks each in this sale. Some in the last sale as well. That's cheaper than Steam's summer sale offerings for the same product. Devil's Playhouse is 10 bucks currently. Though it's cheaper at regular for whatever reason. So picking and choosing can probably get better deal at either place at any given moment.
I was referring mostly to Long Live the Queen but I see GOG had it at 75% in their flash sale as well so it's the same discount. Just with steam you get some free DRM goodies to go along with your game.
-
Age of Mythology, System Shock 2, and Transistor. Very tempting. Too bad I need to pay rent.
Also not on sale, but Valiant hearts looks rather stirring. I have decided I will play it at some point.
-
Ugh...I'd much rather get System Shock 2 on GOG because of the massive amount of extras, but I can't buy it on there right now, and now it's on Steam for the same extremely-low price. Wat do.

Wait? =)
I don't know that the extras are all that essential, what with the free mods. As with the Thief series, you only want the Steam game for the data anyway, you're going to want to move it to a shorter path and use SS2Tool.

what the... (http://store.steampowered.com/app/262650/)
-
So hey, if anyone out there plays Sins of a Dark Age, I got the common-tier item for that from crafting the badge, so I'd be happy to pass it on. (Actually I think I still have something from War Thunder from the previous winter sale too.) In return, if anyone grabbed a TF2 or Spiral Knights item and doesn't care about it, I'd gladly take it.

Want an Iron Wolf Helm for spiral knights? I've had it market-listed for ages, but I'll happily just give it to you to be rid of it.
-
Sure, might as well. I already have one myself, but I can at least give it away or sell it in-game.
-
All of GOG's bundles are back up for the final deal in addition to the regular flash sales.
-
I bought Asetto Corsa, and that's about it really.
-
I may have bought some computer hardware to bring my PC into the 201X's, and to play Metro: Last Light in full detail.
