Title: Installation
Post by: corran on June 22, 2014, 02:16:20 am
I there a posting/section where there is just a simple bullet point install instructions?  I am trying to read through this forum and I am getting very confused with all the different builds, directories, and launchers.  I have both FS and FS2 on original discs and Win 7 64 bit.  I have not installed either.  I was trying to find out what I need to do before I try to install both games.

Thanks.

Step one is to install FS2 from disc. Then you go to http://fsoinstaller.com, download the installer, and use it to install the mods you want (At a minimum, you want the latest version of FS_Open and the MediaVPs). Then you install wxLauncher (found here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=67950.0)), and use that to set resolutions etc and to use the mod tab to set the MediaVPs as the active mod.

FS1 is in the mod called The FreeSpace Port or FSPort if you're also wanting to play that.

Somebody should fix the 'Installing FreeSpace Open' link up top. And make it bigger. And more red.

We can make it flash and scroll and have sweet sparkly effects too!

Yes.  By no means do any of that, but I agree that it should definitely be more prominent.   Hell, put a big permanent image link right on the side of the homepage.

And while you're at it change the Apollo from the installer to something more sexy, like a Perseus or an Athena. With green neon underlights.
