The World loved that man. That's ****ed up on so many levels. I've come over all sombre.

This is so ****ing depressing on so many levels

I didn't realise I appreciated him so much. It's really made me sad.
-
Oh captain! My captain!
-
I'm in shock... :(
-
Depression is just...**** it. So hard.
-
He always sounded like a positive and happy guy when you heard him in interviews. Kinda shocking to find out that he committed suicide.

What a shame. The only movies I've seen with him in it are Jumanji, Aladdin, and Mrs. Doubtfire. :(
-
I'm still kind of expecting to wake up tomorrow and find it was all a hoax. It just seems so... wrong.
-
It was widely known he suffered from heavy depression for decades now.
-
Merged a bunch of posts from WHIYL in here, which is why it looks like I started the thread instead of mralexs.
-

Regardless you still don't really expect these things to happen.

Age can tip matters since it adds more stuff to the pile of things to deal with. Someone that's been dealing with it for a long time is often treading water rather than actually stable.
-
Very, very sad.
-
Meanwhile, my reaction to hearing it was:
"Okay. Just because?"
I think my emotional responses are broke
Ah well. Great actor, fantastic movies, life goes on. Just be happy he has been immortalized through his countless films and that many more people will still be able to enjoy what he's done for comedic relief
-
I want to feel like I could comment with a good Williams joke with his style of humor but… no, there's nothing funny about this at all. It just sucks. :(
-
The damn BBC news obituary reminded me that he was in Being Human, which in its own small way has just made me even sadder.
-
And now that PZ Myers' post. I mean, I don't even go there, but twitter had to ragelink to it. Jesus F Christ. Sometimes even at these times with the islamic fanatics and so on it's so hard to believe there are people who I just have no capacity of adjectivizing. "Scum" is such an euphemism, a baby word.
-
It's funny how in attempting to demonstrate a sense of perspective he has in fact lost all sense of perspective.
-
That's a very accurate and generous description. It even paints the guy as a tragic figure. I'll take it.

what the **** did that pretentious narcissistic asshole do now?
-
While I personally don't pay much attention to the actors themselves it is still sad all together for people to pass on, I'm sure he's in a better place now doing what he does best.
And now that PZ Myers' post.
Someone mind quoting what PZ Myers said?

Robin's suicide was a conspiracy to distract from the stuff happening in St.Louis. Robin needs to check his white privilege.
-
How hateful and disgusting.
-
I swear conspiracy theories are the scourge of the earth.
The amount of crap I've read recently regarding conspiracies. Do these people have a life or any sanity?
-
all great art is made of suffering

But that's obviously not what it said.
-
He was just taking Bob's summation litteraly. PZ's not that dumb. His wrongness is another.
-
While I stand by my original statement of disgust of the utter rubbish most conspiracies are, I have to admit that I probably should have read that article with a bit more focus than I did.
Regardless he does seem to imply what Bobboau said which to me is stupid and to link his death with politicians agendas and media cover-ups of other issues is disgusting.
But frankly I'm not surprised
-
Hmmmmm. While I think that the PZ Myers' post is disgusting, I can see the point he was trying to make, that the news and politicians aren't interested in covering complex issues that might turn off their viewers/constituents. And that point is a very valid one. I think one of the biggest problems with the American electoral system has nothing to do with the system itself, and everything to do with the fact that news channels can't be objective since their viewers will simply switch channels if the news isn't jerking them off about what they personally believe.
Pity he couldn't express his disgust at that without disrespecting Robin Williams.
-
The strange thing is here in Australia the media seems to light up with there nasty things happening.
MH17 for example the news reporters sounded so excited to have breaking news of a tragic incident, the more people that die the more excited they almost seems.
I do agree with you Kara with the point about covering up issues that it is a valid issue (given that I don't live in America I can't say whether PZ Myers example was true or not but the point is valid) I just don't think the why he expressed his point was of poor taste, particularly with implicating a man suicide as an ulterior motive of someone elses.
-
because nothing, absolutely nothing is more important than his "Social Justice".
-
Of course that's not true. You forgot his own ego.

I think cracked wrote a really nice article (http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/robin-williams-why-funny-people-kill-themselves/) about comedians and why they are depressed in reflection to this event, and I recommend it.

That's super ****ed up. Surely there must be some people who simply have a talent for making people laugh and use it and besides that are perfectly secure in themselves or at least not self-destructively suicidally insecure. Unless that is the difference between having that talent and going up on stage to use that talent.

That's good reading
