Frankly, I can't believe they apologized. That's too funny. You Americans celebrate kicking the British out; it's only fair to celebrate a retaliation on an American attack where the British and Canadians waltzed down to Washington, had a party and a big bonfire, then went home.... ;)

Be grateful you aren't typing that in German. ;)

I live in Canada. Even had the Nazis managed to cross the Atlantic and invade, they'd be living it up in sunny Florida, not freezing their asses off 8 months out of the year up here :p
Suddenly I have an urge for...

Makes sense. I suspect that British embassy has some Canadians on staff. That would explain both the celebrations and the prompt apology. :)

Yes, I'm American. Yes, I'm as patriotic as the next man. But I'm sportsman enough to get a good laugh out of this. :)

Yeah this one was blown out of proportion. The comment was clearly in jest. However, I will say there is a difference in Americans celebrating kicking the British out from the celebration of burning down THE monumental building that symbolizes our nation. :) Many nations celebrate their independance. Not many celebrate attacking Parliament or somesuch. I think that's why people got bent out of shape.

burn all the things!

I still think the most amusing thing to come out of the War of 1812 was the Battle of New Orleans, which was a resounding US victory...after the war had been declared over via treaty. Speed of communication was a fun thing back then. :p
-
Yeah, that one was fun:
Johnny Horton says it best. :)

i want death metal versions of all of johnny horton's material.

every 11th of november the UK celebrate a plot to blow up our own parliament, so everyone else is fair game :D
-
That's a bit different. You celebrate this plot being stopped. :) The sacking of White House actually succeeded.

It's the 5th and the "celebration" is that the plot failed.
Nowadays it's just an excuse to light fires and shoot off fireworks and have a party.

Nothing like celebrating something not blowing up by blowing something up.
