Something I've been playing with, making a realistic looking sun in Lightwave...
How it started:

Hypervoxels/glow added:

Colors changed/more hypervoxels added:

How it looks with background, where I am now:

Needs to bleed into the back-ground more.
-
looking good, although i think the edge of the sun itself is too perfect on the last one.
-
The first one looks too much like an orange....sorry
-
The surface should blend in with the flares, but I don't think that's possible in its current state.
Y'know, you usually can't see the light and dark spots on a star, tho. Too bright. Might help you something...
-
I gotta play with the hypervoxels settings still...
Small updates.
Lowered the luminosity a bit on the sphere:

Lowered the global glow settings:

I like the first one better
-
Suns aren't splotchy pink.
-
They are if you stare at them for a while
-
No, they kinda flash yellow and red...
-
Have you tried adding some Volume Light?
-
It looks good so fare.
-
I prefer mine :p
