Survey: Germans Best, Britons Worst Travelers

Quote
Germans are the most welcome travelers around the world, according to a survey published on Thursday. Britons are the least wanted.

The survey, carried out by online travel agency Expedia at tourist offices in 17 countries from Cyprus to San Francisco ranked Germans top of the list for behavior and linguistic efforts and second only to the Americans in politeness.

By contrast Britons were said to be the worst behaved and the rudest. They make no effort to speak the local language and are tight-fisted tippers.

"British holidaymakers are some of the most widely traveled in  the world, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're good at it," said Expedia.co.uk managing director Dermot Halpin. "A little effort goes a long way in a foreign country

"and second only to the Americans in politeness."

 indeed :wtf:

This comes from the fact we've got so much influence around the world (or had) : Why learn the native tongue when you can force them to speak English!!! :D

Hell, Americans aren't even polite to me.

Of course, I don't imagine many other nationalities would take it too well if a shaggy, badly-dressed quasi-hippie started lecturing them on the evils of Amerikan foreign policy and how they are to blame for the lion's share of human misery in the world. See? I try to be understanding. But nooooo, not good enough for Mr. Consumerist Slime...

k, if Americans are so polite, then why the hell do they tend to claim to be Canadian when travelling?

If that was at all a common phenomenon, people would hate Canadians, not Americans.

People hate americans because they are jealous

Duh

...Who wouldn't be jealous of someone forced to pay 40% of his money on obscenely-designated taxes in order to pay for a massive, Byzantine military-industrial complex bigger than the Sun and capable of blowing up said star 40 times over for no good reason that never actually gets fully deployed in war or finds good use for its $4 billion radon bombs and crap and thus ends up buying things like fax machines that cost more than a Manhattan condo but can be dropped off a Jeep in the rain, though, oddly, the paper cannot survive rain and they require the sort of phone lines not regularly seen on Jeeps? I mean, if we even had adequate health care or public transportation, I'd buy into that. Hell, if they even GAVE me a cruise missile once a year after I paid my taxes, I'd be more than happy. Maybe, if the Army needs so much money, they can start auctioning off stuff to citizens instad of Borghundistani terrorist factions. I think I'm more deserving, and I always wanted a tank. Or a $400000 fax machine I can drop off a Jeep with impunity. Load THAT on an AG missile and launch it at a bunker!

Ah British tourists: they are affectionatly known as 'The Horde [of Houligans]' here. :p

As for the Germans: they are always welcom by they shouldn't/can't stay for too long (like 4 or 5 years). If you know what I mean.

If the Germans come to visit you'll run out of b33r! (And THAT is a disaster!!)

The old British tourist thing is a stereotype.

Well, at least I'm not like that is what I mean. :p

Still, in America I did notice that the American toursits were polite, talkative, and almost never used the "bad words" that we're so fond of on our little island.

Still, the employees at the tourist spots are paid to be happy and polite and the other Americans don't have anything to worry about because of the military-industrial complex outlined by Stryke 9 above, so maybe they should be happy. :)

In most toursist resorts I've been to, I've seen the english and Germans behave equally badly. It depends where you go though, If you go to somewhere like Falaraki then the chances are that the British tourists you encounter will most likely be drunk, promiscuous (not that promiscuity is a bad thing) and loud (that's what they payed for). If you go to The Heart of the Wine country in france, Italy etc. the tourists are more likely to be more refined.

American tourists just look and sound irritating to us. Again there's the distinction between the different types. The ones that wander round London City centre being the most irritating of all.

Now Japanese tourists are in a whole different league.....

'twas going to make some sort of comment about not grouping everyone in Britain with the English, but then I remebered that  my older brother went the last 2 years to Falariki.......

I haven't seen any british tourists live... not that I'm aware of anyway... but I must say that sometimes Finnish tourists can be really unpleasant.

Finnish tourists + alcohol (lot's of it) not a good combination. There are exeptions of course... myself included :p

Yeah. Giving alcohol to Finnish tourists is like giving food after midnight to a Mogwai. :D

I have a fairly high level of netiquete but if you were to meet me you'll find that I swear like a trooper, I think we Irish take full advantage of the word '****' and its amazingly flexible ability to describe almost anything. Other than a token minority of ****heads (see :D), as tourists we are generally welcome in most countries barring england.

I think that anyone from any large FPS game community is usually very adept at usage of that, especially in conjunction with other words. :D

It must be the most versatile and useful word in the entire English language; can be substituted just about anywhere. :D

Why? They may not be the most welcome tourists but I know a lot of very nice british people. Technically I'm british since I was born in Northern Ireland.

Anyways this is just a great way for everyone to start a literal worldwide flamewar.
