Title: December 2014 Screencap Contest
Post by: mjn.mixael on December 02, 2014, 02:49:02 pm
This month's theme: Sorrow

It's 2014! That means a new screencap season! We're going to do things slightly differently this year. Our many campaigns are filled with emotional ups, downs, and/or lackthereof. So let's highlight that with a whole year's worth of emotional themes. I don't care what's in the image as long as it portrays the particular feeling for the month (and is captured from in-mission).

Screencap Scoreboard:
Ckid - 2
Mpez - 3
AndrewofDoom - 1
tnathan475 - 1
The Hound - 1
Betrayal - 2
Admiral Ralwood - 1

Remember to check out the Wiki article (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Screencap_Contest) for tips on how to capture the best screen!
Screencap script makes taking pictures much easier! (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82173.0)

Can't let them win without a bit of competition!

Here we go...

Maybe not exactly within the months theme, but still looks cool.

Nothing more sad, then a debris field (with derelict ships) around Saturn.

I believe it's from his VeniceMirror mod (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNoLTtisJH8&t=21).

That video is pretty badass - English needs some work, but the visuals are spectacular :)

That's right, first pic is from my VeniceMirror intro, but this time, with all the fancy stuff on... I was really surprised that it was so good, so i just had to screenshot it :D (The video itself was done in period of time when I faced some video cart issues with freespace)

As for english... I know this is a issue here, that is why I posted that (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=87304.msg1769748#msg1769748).

P.S. Are those BP screenshots even from Freespace? I get some doubts about that...

They are from his mod and probably on Sins of a Solar Empire engine.

I am afraid those screenshots are not proper contest shots (contest rules stands that the screenshot is taken from FS2 itself).

well i'm looking thought the rules and see no mention of freespace only. I could be wrong if you would link me that particular rule, it would be nice

Screens must be from the FSO engine as the whole point is to show, creatively, just was FSO + HLP can do. I think that was one of those 'understood' rules that never made it into writing except at the top of the wiki article page.

"The contest, started by Axem and now judged by MjnMixael, is a part of the monthly HLP Newsletter. The whole idea is to capture the best of the best of what the FSO engine can do! Each month features a theme and entries must be based on that theme."

I've added it more clearly to the rules list on the same wiki page.

Let's be clear here: if that wasn't the rule, The_E would have pwned the entire competition every single month.

He imported Atreus to CryEngine or Unity or something like this. He posted some screenshots in Celebration thread some time ago. Lets say "I have never seen anything like that before *_____*" to describe the results.
