I typed www.freespace2.com and then tried to perform some of the cheats, but they're not working.
For example, I'm in that mission against the Sathanas where its forward beam cannons must be destroyed. I entered the mission, stopped flying, typed 'www.freespace2.com', and then proceeded to select the first forward beam cannon so that I could use the Shift+K cheat in order to destroy it. However, that doesn't do anything.
Help?
P.S. I'm not interested in help with this mission. I just want to get the cheats to work.

Just tried it and it worked. When you type "www.freespace2.com", it should cause a "cheats enabled" message to appear in the message box. The key combo isn't "Shift+K", though, it's "`+Shift+K".

Oh, everything starts with the ` key. Now my world makes sense. lol :) Thank you, AdmiralRalwood!
I'm happy to report though that I successfully took out all 4 of those beam cannons without cheating. My frustration was that I got all 4 very easily my first time today (but definitely not my first time ever), but I decided to do it again for some reason. That was a huge mistake because I failed every attempt after that, probably about 75-100 times in a row (I even restarted the entire game just to rule out some kind of corruption preventing me from succeeding). So, I finally decided to cheat just to get past that mission! Fortunately (I guess), I didn't know how to get the cheats to work, and that forced me to keep trying to do it without cheating. The reason why I said "fortunately (I guess)" is that now I have an even better way to beat that mission.
I know that this is a lot to read, but I'm worried that someone might think that I'm relying on cheats to get through some of the more difficult missions. So, it's just that I lost my patience and just wanted the hell to be over with. lol

Of course I do (I'm not new to FS2), but I don't like the result of leaving 2 beams for the next mission.

But there are fewer fighters to harass you in the next mission.
(I'm playing devil's advocate. I know that perfectionism is a strong motivator in itself.)
