Hello,
Does anyone know where I can download any huge-@$$ super capships, like the Apocalypse or that 36 km long Shivan colony killer?
Thanks.
-
To DL a beta version of the Apocalypse go to the Machina Terra website(you can find it in the hosted section here at HLP)
Never heard of that Shivan colony killer, so I can't help you with that... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
Oh by the way(I'll spare you this time Maeglamor):
Welcome to HLP, exits are to the rear and left, in case of an emergency, there are shotguns and shells under the seat... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Ahh... shotguns...
Thanks. Any other superships around?
-
Well... theres the Bastion, but it's not up for DL yet...
-
That shivan colony killer must be the gargant. It's along with 2 other supercapships in Inferno, and you'll be able to get it when Inferno will be realease. when? I don't know, that's up to woomeister (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
Well there are the SVJ Semnai but you will have to wait until the Babel Effect...
There's the Terran Pride, but you will have to wait for the Ghost and the Darkness
There's the Diablo, but you will have to wait untill the prologue of the Ghost and the Darkness(it's so good having something that people want... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))
And that's all I can think of... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
Basiclly, if you don't find what you want in the DL sections of the HLP, VW or any other site, you will have to wait for the campaigns...
-
Nice PIMPing there Raven (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Holy @#$%! And I thought the Apocalypse was huge...

Yes indeedy and somehow Alpha 1 is going to have to beat them.
Time to strap a massive engine to a moon and set it on a collision course with one of those monsters (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

About those HUGE ships that Woomeister has showd... I'll tell you the truth, they look cool, and all, but they are just to big for my taste... someday we will have ships even bigger than those and we won't have any space(and I'm refering to the big void of the universe were we like to play FS (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) ) left... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
Still they are cool... but they just don't suit my style... the only one that I think that is some ok is the Apoc...
-
Hmm... i was planning a massive fleet HQ station (before I started the campaign) - but there's not much point if you can only dock 1 ship at a time.
Still, might have a shot at it regardless (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Personally I'm not planning for The Babel Effect to at all be in this sort of "arms race" that we have going here (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
The GVJ Semnai and another, quite frightening craft being done by Sandwitch will more than be giants in the playground for players.
There is a point where a ship is too large for the player to interact with it effectively, but namely this is due to poor ship design.

Oh my <insert many words of curse here>!!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)
Look at the size of those things!!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)
For comparison once I made three missions, each one had all the ships etc (cargo, stations, everything) from each of the three species in FS2, and they were all in line from largest to smallest...
Do you know how long it took to fly from one end to the other (especially of the Terran one since they have the most ships)!?!
Imagine including these ships!?!
How long does it take to fly around that jellyfish one? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)
Joe.
-
I'm not including anything much bigger than the Hades (the Mars and the Cernunnos measure up at ~3750m) because personally, I thought the Saths and the Collosus were TOO DAMN BIG! Flying the Ptah around the Sath felt more like an obstacle course! Oh yes, and congratulations to Sandwich. Glad to know someone else here appreciates the movie with the best swordfight of all time.

I was under the impression that if 2 ships docked simultaneously wierd stuff happened.
-
I tried that too. As soon as you dock the second ship, the first one detaches. But it doesn't tell you.
-
It does, i've seen missions where freaky things happen if two ships are docking at the same time. However, and this is especially true for a fleet station, you could just START the mission with everything docked, and have things undock during the mission. You really wouldn't need to have ships docking during a fight, and if all else fails if you just give the ship a waypoint that snuggles it up against the station, is it really going to be a visible difference? anything larger than an argo isn't going to bother docking with a station anyway, usually. Its so much easier to just use shuttles for moving things around.

Well, even though The Phantom Menace stunk as a whole, I think the it surpassed Princess Bride in swordplay choreography.
But of course, most of the swordplay in TPM was just for show and would have gotten someone killed in a few seconds had they actually fought like that. Even though it was impressive to watch. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well, its not really fair to compare the choreography in TPM with other movies, because they used high-tech special effects to help them. All the fight scenes were done much much more slowly by the actors, and CGI people speeded up the film and altered the clothing and such to make it look like it was moving properly. This isn't to say it wasn't good, but they were able to do things with computers that the Princess Bride had to do with actual skill on the part of actors.
