Here's the results of my new nebular patch so far. There are only 6 so far but this will increase. Tell me what you think.
BTW this patch will not be release seperatly for a while, it is in development primaraly for Rise of GCA (http://digilander.libero.it/ichnosoft/riseofgca/index.htm) campaign. Check it out (i made the site too)
PS. IF YOU ARE COLBALT STAR THEN PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ZARAX ABOUT HOSTING!!

The 2nd one is cool... But the first one looks like 3 nebular puzzle pieces are linked together... Its strange...
-
thats because the 1st one IS 3 different nebs!
-
Mmm.... Don't stick 'm together like that. Its not good. Either make 'm really overlap eachother or use the pan/bank etc. options a bit more.
-
Oh no! The PFC is coming! Run from the Pegasi Federated Commonwealth! :D
hehehe
-
No, it's the Galactic Corporation Alliance first enemy...
The Pirate Fleet!
-
They look - interesting...not bad at all.
How and in what did you make these?

Rise of GCA, the newest FS2 MOD campaign...

ok, the patch is finished with some interesting results. I overrode all the previous nebs with the new ones so that any mission would use the new ones. Here's the first real mission in the FS2 campaign: wot do you think? Do i need to make them closer to the original nebs?

That looks...very interesting. I would say they need to be toned down some, or it could be pretty distracting.

Colorful :)

Just wait the rest...
Prepare yourself to change your way of playing FS2...:mad2:

*in a geat battle against a sath*
"Pilot... Aren't these colors nice?"
"Yes, they..."
BOOM!
-
the red nebulae is a bit too bright. It looks like an expülosion rather than a nebulea. Make it less bright.
-
Nebulae are explosions
-
Holy crap thats colourful.
Is this done through a code change or script change or what?
-
i just used Photoshop 6 and a flaming pear plugin, they replace the original nebs in the effects folder.
-
Looks pretty good. I would recommend sticking to one or two colors only within a mission though, since that allows them to blend in better with each other.
-
ya, colorfull as hell. looks good though, just not for missions. Maybe not as many diff. colors in the same mission.
What i would be inpressed by is if somebody made some existing nebulaes, i know they would loook different from where FS is, but it would be siick if someone did that.
-
I like that idea. Give reality a shot. Might look a bit boring after that though.
Also could the nebulas be replaced by other things?
Like far away asteriod or debris fields.

Real images look better than the fake FS2 ones if done properly.
A proto-system (stellar dust and asteroids and such circling a sun) as a background:

i like the first one best.
where did you get them then?
another job for the scp-animated backgrounds (has someone said that already?)
then there could be far more realistic supernovas. instead of enlarging pcx's.

Dont like to share hu?

Very nice!

I have noticed that combining the usual nebula graphics with some photographs makes for a good background. The photos look great but cannot be duplicated (and still look right) and thus only cover up a part of the background, while the FS2-style nebula don't look as good but are able to cover up the entire sphere, so they work nicely together.
On a side note, these are a bit old and I have changed them around since I posted the thread, but check this out: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,8115.0.html
