Title: Just Got Blue Planet 2 - Are These Problems, Really Problems?
Post by: Prince_AKR on January 06, 2015, 08:36:17 am
Good day people of Hardlight!

So I just recently got into the swing of FS2 modding, and after some poking around here on the forums as a guest, I guessed it was time to make my own account and get some discussions rolling!

So, yesterday I installed Blue Planet 2, after just completing BP1 (which was awesome!) One of the main things that I liked about BP1 was its voice-acting. Upon playing BP2, I noticed that there isn't really much voice acting at all...Just a few clips here and there. When there ARE voices, it's always rendered in that annoying Microsoft default. I was wondering if this problem is normal or not. Also, I keep encountering glitches, like random crashes and there was even a situation where I froze mid-gameplay, yet, the sound was still running in real time, but I couldn't do anything.

Any explanations ?

BP2 isn't voice-acted yet; it'll be finished sometime in the Near Future.

Dunno about the technical bugs.

And welcome to HLP!

Your fs2_open.log (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=56279.msg1180359#msg1180359) will help when resolving technical difficulties.

I'm presuming that you are not running an old rig, so I would refer you to the sticky thread at the top of this section of the forum to make sure you have the correct stuff installed such as mediavps 2014 and I think BP needs atleast 3.7.2 of the FSO RC, and to make sure that you do not have any other mods trying to load as well, just the BP mod.

You also have the automated text-to-speech turned on. I'm not personally familiar with how to disable it but it should say somewhere in your launcher or, failing that, the wiki.

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm going to do a little tweaking and update if anything happens.

Alright, so I tried it again, and the same thing happened, except now earlier in the mission; I froze mid-flight but the audio was still fine. When I fired weapons, the sound effect continued playing. It was as if the game was still functioning, but I had no control. I'm running it through the FSO launcher and no other mods are active. I have no idea what's causing the problem. Age of Aquarius worked fine, so this is strange.

You will want to post your log like Jeff Vader told you. Click on the link he posted in his response and it will tell you how to do it.

For quick access... it's here:-

Once, the FS2 gods have had a look, they are usually able to identify what is causing your problem.
