Hey everyone.
I just got FS Open running on my computer, and am now playing FS for the first time! It took a while to figure out a good control setup for my Thrustmaster(my first stick ever) But I'm having fun now. About to go on my first nebula patrol mission.
My only experience with anything remotely like FS before was something called Renegade: Battle for Jacobs star, which I played about 12 years ago, on a keyboard.
Anyhow, to the point: Does anyone have recommendations for a good arcadey Mod? Something where one Ace pilot in an experimental supercraft takes on hordes of lesser opponents single handed? Something real over the top, good for blowing off steam. Maybe with a survival mode where you fight waves of ever increasing size until death instead of a campaign?
If not, I'll have to look up some modding tutorials ;) *If this is the wrong place for a post like this, I apologize, please redirect me.

Um, this. Definitely this. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=78402.0)
This is a true gem of a mod that takes on a brand new fighting style and it's very much an over-powered player against the horde.

Yeah, I really need to try The Antagonist sometime. Everyone seems to have high praise for it.
I haven't played it, but from what I've seen of it, JAD Xtreme Arcade would fit the bill as well:

I don't know about the rest of JAD, but Xtreme Arcade looks to be just what you're looking for.

Wow, two replies in the time it takes me to go to the gym and start laundry? This community is awesome! Thanks guys, I'll have to check these out soon. Somewhere between the main campaign, Blue Planet, Star Fox Battlestar Galactica, and Star Wars mods. There is quite a lot of content around. I'm impressed at how active the community is for an oldish game, then again maybe I shouldn't be given the fact that Doom World is still kicking.
If anyone else has a favorite, I'd love to hear from you!

What's that sidescrolling mod? Let me look it up, you might enjoy that too.

Thanks guys, really cool looking stuff.
I have a noob question I'm not sure where to post, so I'll just leave it here, rather than open a new thread.
What does target nearest attacking ship do? I thought it might target whoever is shooting at me, or whoever is targeting me, but sometimes I feel like it does nothing at all. I've mostly been getting by with the manual targeting, and target next nearest hostile buttons.
Can someone explain this function to me? When I was looking at recommended joystick configs, it seemed like everyone put it on the stick rather than the keyboard, so it seems like it must be pretty essential.
Still enjoying the campaign! I now know what I was missing when I was playing Renegade Legion...

As far as I know it should target anyone that is currently targeting you. If no one is targeting you then it does nothing, so while useful I find that I need at least one other targeting option easily available (e.g. target under reticle or target closest hostile).
-
I usually don't bind that to my stick. I prefer next/previous hostile and if someone shoots me I can come about and target under reticle.
-
OK, thanks, I'll think about trying to use it more. Mostly I've been using next target and the manual target. I guess the person shooting me must have blown up before I hit the button, and that's why nothing happened. Lately I've taken it off my stick to make room for + engine power.
OK, I can stop derailing my own thread now.
