Hi guys,
If this was already on, I appologize, and if I am missing something, same goes here.
I have the new free space open installed, I love this game, but after playing the regular game (and it worked fine) of FS2, I activated blue planet.
In the menu (flight deck) the mouse acts ok. nothing wrong there, but when I try to start a mission my ship goes crazy and start to move to the sides. I can control it with the mouse, but the movement doesn't stop. it just keeps going all the time and basically I need to fight with the mouse to try and stabilitze it since it just keeps flying all the time to differrent directions.
I new use the keyboard but I really need my mouse control
Can you guys give a tip, if there is any info, please let me know.
thanks.

Please post the names of your operating system and FSO launcher.
Do you happen to have a joystick selected in the launcher? Even if you don't have a physical joystick or other game controller, there might be a virtual joystick that the game is utilizing. Since you're trying to play with a mouse, make sure that no joystick is selected.
If that doesn't work and you're running Windows, try enabling the "Don't use DirectInput for mouse control" option. (If you're using wxLauncher, this can be found under Advanced Settings -> Troubleshoot.)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I'll try what you suggest and will update.
In answer to your questions:
OS: Win 8.1
Specs:
I5-750
8GB ram
GeForce 250 GTS
using Wxlauncher
Had no joystick connected, nor selected (was on "No Joystick")
Also tried to connect my RockFire Joystick (joypad), set it up -> Same results.
:banghead:
Update: Tried "Don't use DirectInput for mouse control" -> same.
As soon as the mission starts, the ship starts turning around constantly and doesn't stop.
If I try to counter the movement with the mouse, I can alter the movement, but it will keep moving in the new direction without stopping.
-
Can you unplug your mouse after starting the mission and see if it still moves?
-
No go...
I tried to disconnect my joypad. Disabled it in the wxlauncher.
started the campain (Blue planet), and again, in the menu the mouse is fine.
Started the mission and the ship keeps spinning.
I disconnected the mouse and still it is the same thing.
Also tried changing the mouse from my Microsoft 3000 set, and plugged only my Logitech MX1000 mouse.
Same thing.
This is so fraustrating.
I love this game but this is so annoying, its unplayable like this.
  :banghead:
Anyone have any suggestions?

Doublecheck your key mappings for your pitch, bank, roll keys. Then cycle through all of them to see if that stops it.
Also, Please post your fs2_open.log file. Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

Hi.
Ok, update,
When I disabled the turn (Pitch and Yaw), then the ships stops spinning.
I had my joystick disconnected, but still, when I tried to link the mouse to the movement, it returned with the joy stick also.
Does this have anything to do with it?
Enclosed it my log you requested.
The first is a regular game when my control went crazy,
The second (v2) is when I tried to disable the keys and disable the mouse (that stopped the ships spinning, but now mouse control)
I also tried creating a new pilot but same results.
Thank you very much for everything.

Well, shoot. Debug log isn't much help there. If you are able, would you please post a video of the behavior?
I have a few other questions:
1. Is the direction of the spin constant if you do not move the mouse or joystick?
2. When you are trying to counter the spin, are you moving the mouse in the direction of the spin or against it?
3. Do you have any other controller plugged in? This includes mice, joysticks, keyboards, gamepads... anything that provides input to the PC
4. Have you tried any of the older versions of FreeSpace Open, such as 3.7.0?

Hi Z64555
I tried with some software to record this, but I only get the desktop, and the game seems blank.
Can you recommend a freeware program to do this?
I tried:
BlueBerry FlashBack Express Recorder
Rylstim Screen Recorder (portable)
CamStudio
So:
1. No. I thought it was (up and right), but I tried to turn the mouse off and on again and it picks a random direction, it seems.
2. I am countering against the spin, and with the height in order to counter since the mouse is inverted.
basically I am countering as I should.
I found that I can move the mouse very gently, like a joystick and it will counter until level. but if I move the mouse a bit to the side it will start again, as if I need to "Center the stick"
3. All I have connected is my Microsoft desktop 3000 set (Wireless mouse and keyboard)
Same as it was two weeks ago or so, when it worked fine.
4. I tried using FS 3.7.0 but I get a crash notification:
mv_effects-sdf.tbm(line 16):
Error: Required token = [#END] or [$Species_Name:], found [$Countermeasure Type: Type One] .
ntdll.dll! NtWaitForSingleObject + 12 bytes

I think FRAPS works well, but you might need to run FSO in fullscreen mode.
Well, I'm utterly stumped at the moment. Hmm. Could you try a wired keyboard?

3.7.0 is too old for the 2014 MediaVPs, but you don't need to be using the 2014 MediaVPs to test mouse functionality.

This almost sounds like the behaviour of the alternate-mouse-control script. What files do you have in this directory?
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Freespace 2\data

Thanks. From a conversation on IRC I now suspect that the mouse script isn't the problem, but best to double check - could you also please post the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Freespace 2\data\tables?
-
Hi tygger. I haven't read the whole thread properly so forgive me if telling something obvious.
I have same symptom for years but for me it can be simply avoided by unplugging the mouse before launching fso and plugging in back after it has loaded. You can try it too.
It isn't only fso issue. Some other apps behave the same way. OS: Arch Linux.
See ya.

That directory seems to be empty.
Was I looking in the wrong place?

Try

?

I have solved it.
Apperantly this was the microsoft drivers for the Microsoft 3000 for windows 8.
This was updated a couple of weeks ago.
It was weird since this also happened with my Logitech MX1000 mouse. I guess they have some shared DLLs or something.
I have removed the microsoft keyboard and mouse center and only installed the Intellipoint and the problem was gone!
Thank you very much everyone for helping. This really drove me nuts and I was about to give up on this great game.
Here is the folder content just in case it might help

Interesting. I wonder what in the MS KB+Mouse center was causing this?
-
glad you got the issue fixed :)
Also, the Freespace 2\data\tables directory being empty is fine, problems can occur when it's not empty :) (i.e. has .tbm or .tbl files in it)
-
Also glad you solved the issue. :)

Interesting. I wonder what in the MS KB+Mouse center was causing this?
I am guessing that this was one of the new features they added, or they changed something in the mouse driver that caused it to act as a joystick or something like that.
It really felt like an off centered joystick.
Once I played with it and managed to "Center" it, the ship stopped moving (almost, it was very hard to center)
I got suspicious when trying to debug, and the logs came up short.
Then I tried running the original FreeSpace 2 I have installed. No launcher/mods.
Same results.
As this is the only game on my machine, I could not verify it with any other game, but this was only during the game itself.
Then I remembered that in the old days (very old days) with my first joystick, this happened to me when the stick was not centered.
Since there are not "Center" keys on the mouse, I thought it was worth trying to remove the mouse drivers.
BTW, I am using the Win 7 64bit drivers and not the Win 8.1 driver. These seemed to cause this issue (the MS center).
