All of the X series are for free on steam for three days, if any one of you want to revisit the old title, or try the new one.

Thanks for the headsup

Thanks! I've never played any of them. Is any particular one noob-friendly? 2 days isn't much time to overcome a steep learning curve.

None of them are particularly newbie-friendly. However, the least newbie-unfriendly would be Terran Conflict.

X3 would be the best and has the best mods atm.
Don't play without mods.
There are scripts that save your life and make playing soooo much easier. From reconfigured menus for better UI, automated traders and factory managment, cockpits, new ships, etc, etc..
X:Rebirth is.... looks nice, but is more limited.

Thanks for the advice! I forgot I had Terran Conflict; I think I got it from a humble bundle. I might give Rebirth a try this weekend - I've always been a bit overwhelmed by too much going on, so more limited may be better for me.

So you cannot actually add these games to your library? Simply have access for three days? Think I'll pass.

I bought the series a while ago in some sale or other for dirt cheap. I tried starting with the original, but didn't get past the training mission when I couldn't make it work with my joystick. Hope to get it working and return one day. Or maybe I should just skip straight to x3, but I hate entering series in the middle.

You won't be missing anything. Really. Just go straight to Terran Conflict.
