Title: Wanted: A Tank Game
Post by: Fineus on July 25, 2002, 08:47:03 am
Pretty much as the title says, I'd like a fun tank game. I'm talking arcade action here - especially if I can mod my own tanks stats. Essentially I've watched Tank Girl one to many times lately and want a piece of the action, but tank games are rare... anyone know anything about them? The more open space there is in game the better (I'm talking Motorcross Madness 2 style levels if it can be done... big things with jumps ;))

BattleTanx for the N64 is a good game, although the graphics are a bit shoddy, or look up some java tank games, some of them are really cool

Hope that helped

oh, Half-life also has some tanks in it, and so does GoldenEye *rembers fond moments of running over civilians in St. Petersburg*

K, I'm done.

well, if you want that, try renegade :)
you get Gmax ( free ), you get the tools on the westwood official site, and there you go, you can make your own tanks, from stats to model. additionanly, you can make the chick and the landscape that goe with it, still with Gmax, and you can run around w/o the tank if you feel this way :)
Otherwise, I don't know of any moddable tank game (dunno if armored fist3 is moddable ).

Thunder,

go for Pocket Tanks... it's old, but it's the most well known and funnest game available :)

http://download.com.com/3000-2119-7716995.html?tag=lst-0-1

follow that link... we used to play that all the time at school :)
not very good graphics or 3D, but it's very fun ;)

enjoy
~Stealth~

EDIT:  It's 2D, and it's similar to the well known Worms 2

OperationFlashpoint has tanks but they are realistic.

You probably want Tread Marks for a motocross-type thing. Lemme see if I can dig up a link.

Hmmm... I'd forgotten what a cool-looking game this was...

Oh, and if you want anything more CTF-style, try the Return Fire series.

Yes, Pocket Tanks, w00t! I'd forgotten about this. I'll go with Stealth on this one, it is a truly great game.

and BTW, there may be a few flash games out there. There are some flashpoint-based ones at the codemasters site, anyway. Or you could try one of those old things like iMagic's iM1A2, or whatever it was called.

That's very true, even with a full crew, even with humans crewing them online its hell. Try being the gunner when the vehicle is charging across open country at speed, and you're trying to take down a BMP. Like I said, HELL.

BTW, sorry'bout double post-ness.

Shrike proving he actually has taste after all (cheap joke - he has kick ass taste in clubs ;)).

Anyhow, yes. Tank Girl rocks. So much that I ordered the DVD just to own a copy. I'm obsessed!

And thanks everyone for the suggestions, looking to be some good ideas so far!

What about Battlezone?  Old but a classic.

Not really your standard tank sim - I've got BZ2 and although it's very good it just lacks the feel...

If only you could mod the models in GTA3. That would be my choice ;)

Try BZ1.  It's a great game, better overall than BZ2 from what I heard.

Scorched Earth. :D (if you can get it to work)

I've got both Battlezone 1 and 2 and like them about equally;
BZ1 is better in some ways and BZ2 excels in others.

Not this one. I looked like a side-scroller to me. Seems the link is broken.
:sigh: Sadness....

Tribes2 has those weird hover tanks :D

Almost everything in Tribes 2 is a hover vehicle except the mobile base.  But given that the hover-gravs and terra-gravs all have the same 'SHOOT ME" labeling on them they're not much fun to drive around the base.

Hell, driving those things is too much of a pain in the rear to me.  But everyone else seems to be able to hop in and bomb everyone else without half a trouble.

Not much to contribute On Topic-wise here, the only two tank games I ever played were for the SNES a long time ago...  And even then they sucked.  Having to worry about gas, crawling around the map, having to use your machineguns to clear out landmines...

Blah.

Like the military would send ONE Abrams out by itself to attack military strongholds.

I tend to use them mostly for CTF suicide runs, especially on the Katabatic map; I take a Shrike fighter and have it run into the enemy's flag (while I jump out at the last second), which makes everyone run away from the explosion and allows me to get a head start when running back to base with the flag. The tank is quite nice as a normal battle unit though.
