Title: Text to Speech option?
Post by: Wobble73 on March 23, 2015, 08:20:59 am
I have been using the Text to Voice option for the mods that aren't voice acted, I am using wxlauncher and have selected Hazel as the voice in the launcher, but Hazel isn't the voice I am getting in game, it sounds more like an indian accent (I don't know the name of this off the top of my head as I am not at my gaming computer at the moment. Does anybody know how I can get the Hazel voice to play in game?

I know a lot of you don't play with the Text to Voice as you would prefer to read the text, but I would rather hear the dialogue, even if it is a bit computerised. It doesn't take away from the immersion for me as I like to think that the ships computer is reading the messages being sent to me.

Interesting, does this happen with the other voices, or just with Hazel?

After your suggestion I tested this, when i choose Microsoft Zira (American) in the launcher it works just fine, when I choose Microsoft Heera (Indian), Micorsoft Hazel tells me Speech is working, but when the game starts it crashes and I get a message Windows is checking for a solution, which just makes the computer hang, when I try to tab out of it, it just keeps flicking back to the Freespace window (white screen). When I choose Microsoft Hazel, it plays Microsoft Heera??

*EDIT* Scratch that, now when i test it again, Microsoft Heera selected, Microsoft Hazel plays, in game too!?

Hmm, try re-installing Hazel and make sure you have all updates for your OS. Do you have any other text-to-speach programs that you can test this on?

Edit: Correction, Heera. I believe Hazel, Zira, and David are the default voices shipped for Windows 8, but I'm not completely sure of this.

It's possible that wxLauncher is to blame, but if the other TTS programs are having the same problem, then it's something with your setup.
